I wanted to share my story, for other mom's who have little ones.  My 2 1/2 yr old came down with Rotavirus on Thursday. It began with a stomach ache and vomiting.   The first night she was up every hour throwing up.   By Friday, she could hardly stay awake  from being so sick, tired & weak.  Then the leg cramping began.  She has been unable to walk for going on 4 days because of the pain.   On Friday, the vomiting seem to slow down, but then the diarrhea began.  It was coming out so fast, and was just like water.  Every time we would get her to take some liquids, she would get a tummy ache, and lose it all over again.   On Friday night she was up every hour with a diaper full of diarrhea.  Today is day #4, she hasn't ate a thing since Wednesday.  She is taking some water in finally.   She is the sickest I've EVER seen any of my children.    She has also been running a fever the entire time.   Its been hard to control the fever, because she is losing everything we give her.   There have been other children in our city who have been hospitalized with this, because of dehydration.   There is no treatment for this awful illness.  It can last up to 10 days.   The most important thing is keeping your child hydrated.

I made the  worst mistake of my life in not getting my baby girl the vaccination for Rotavirus.  When I was offered it, my doctor told me Rotavirus is mainly seen in daycare, so I didn't feel the need since I stay at home.  I was so wrong.. and  now my little girl is so sick.   I just wanted to share my story so I can help other mom's make the right choice for their child.  I believe this immunization is offered around 12-18 mos.

We are still not out of the woods, as she is still very ill... Please pray for my sweet little girl.

I'm so sorry to hear about your little one! She,and you, will be in my prayers. Bless her sweet little heart. I've heard how awful that Rotavirus is, but this is the 1st time I've read about it impacting a family. What a terrible thing! Hoping she feels better, soon. God bless you all!

The poor thing. I really hope everything clears up soon and she gets back to feeling well!!! Rotavirus is just awful, my daughter's cousin was at Children's hospital for over a week just after CHristmas when he got it. He was only 5 months old and it can be fatal for infants. It was a very hard time for his family. I'll be sending prayers for your daughter! Hugs!

Aww I am so sorry to hear that. I hope she gets better quickly.

As a mother & a nursing student preparing for graduation I  am generally very pro vaccine. Although I had a similar experience right before Christmas. I had never given my son the flu vaccine figuring there was little risk since I couldn't remember any of us ever having the flu. Needless to say he caught a terrible case of the flu this year complete w/ vomiting, diarrhea, fever, lethargy. It was so bad we came very close to bringing him to the hospital. It is so sad to see your child sick & unable to get off the couch for days. :( I have since decided that he will definitely be getting the flu vaccine from here on out.

My son also had rota when he was 4 months, and was hospitalized for about a week. The telltale sign is the green diarrhea with the odor from hell.

Your little girls is beautiful, I hope she feels better soon.
