I talk to my son every weekend.  We like to share random bits of news and interesting stories we've picked up during our week.  This last weekend, my son was telling me about an archeological discovery supposedly "proving" the existence of the first known "gay" person, a Caveman at that.  Scientists support their theory based on burial customs in similar sites of similar times.  Men were buried "MAN" style, Women were buried "Woman" style.  Apparently there are marked differences in the customs of dress, accessories, and artifacts buried with the person.  This newest discovery was a "MALE" occupant - here's the fascinating part, but he was dressed in drag!  His burial clothing, everything in this grave (except the, um, anatomy of course) was treated as "FEMALE."  Scientists/researchers claim this can only mean he was gay.  My son had a different theory.  "Oh, yeah, what could that be, what's your theory?"

"It's simple Mom.  The ‘Head Dude' of the tribe let the guys friends bury him however they wanted."

"And his friends dressed him in drag even though he wasn't gay?"

"Of course!  You know - one last HooRah!  That's what me and my friends would do," he explained, "If  me and Scotty and JJ were left in charge of burying Al, you know Al is going to end up in a dress with girlie jewelry!"  Al is NOT gay, but he is kind of pretty.

Yeessss, well, there you have it.  This theory certainly casts a shadow of doubt, for me, on what the ‘experts' claim as ultimate finding.  Because, let's face it, if you know guys (I did not say understand, I said know - there's a difference), you know this kind of thing could happen.

lol. I read the same article and was a bit skeptical. How do they really know what they thought? Perhaps the burial customs were different in this specific tribe? Well never know and when you boil down to it, does it matter? Not really, at least not to me. I like your sons explaination. :)

laughingCute! I love your son's explanation!  Maybe he was buried that way as a type of derogatory thing? Perhaps they meant to "shame" him in death? Who could possibly know?
