A Mom with a Misson

As I get order I begin to get sentimental.Things in life change so quickly. But your family background does not.

My parents met in WW2.My father was a 13 year old boy who put his age up so he could serve his country. My Mom was a young English girl who never was able to have a normal life.

Billy Morris let Harlen Kentucky to go to war. When he arrived in England he met my mother. This is were the story gets skeetchy.Did they met at a USO dance or where I dont know.Betty(my Mom) was a hostees at the dances. My great grandmother was a talior had made a coat with lots of pockets. The pockets were too stuff with all the goodies( cigs, chocolates etc.) England was on rations. They loved the "Yanks" because they were told by their commaders to always bring food when invited over to an English family house.

The war and bombing was going on.The two were deeply in love, but knew that the war could end their lives. My Mom and Dad continued to be inseparable until the day my father had to leave for the Battle of the Bulge. The 2 lovers were commited vowed that their love would see them through.

Life went own my Mom survived bombs and the Nazis. She was Jewish although she looked Italian. When they ran they ran to the underground for safety.Time went by and no news about my dad.The red cross did not have to share the information because they were not married. But by some miracle my Mom received word that Dad had been captured,POW and was in Siberia.

She just cried and cried. The realization that she would never see him again. The war ended and still no word from my Dad.

Seven years passed and my Mom was going to marry someone else.A month before the wedding she got a letter saying I just graduated from college and have a very good job .I will send you the fare to come to Kentucky. When my mom tells the story she always added "what did he think that I was waiting for him." She went to my Grandfather  to ask if he would forgo the big wedding and pay for her fare.

He agreed that he would because he wanted my mother to be sure that she was over my father.

Mom got all her paperwork together and off to America. She was a little afraid because her friends told her to be aware of the Indians. Finally her plane landed and she was going to be reunited with my dad.Seven years had passed both had grown but yet they were able to recognize each other. They just held each other and never let go.The real amazing twist to the story is the day my Mom came to America was Feb.14th.They were married a week later.

Billy Van Morris and Betty Theresa Secunda were inseparable for 25 years. My father died at the age of 50.

Thank you for letting me share their story. My Mom is 86 and is being tested for a tumor in her bladder and spine. Her love story is a true love story.
