A Comedy

When I read this challenge, I first thought of writing a horror story, but then I thought to myself, hmm, everyone will probably do a horror or mystery, so let's do something different. I asked myself, what would be the least expected for this challenge, and like a flash it came to me. I'll write a comedy. I haven't studied acting since I was a sophomore in high school, but I'm hoping I have enough knowledge of the art stored somewhere in the old gray matter.

Scene:  An all girls camp in the middle of nowhere

Characters: Karrie (who has a morbid fear of spiders)

Marla (the stereotype dumb blond who lost her ring but swears it was stolen)

The sinister stranger (we know he is sinister because his hooded black jacket has the word "sinister stranger" spelled out in fluorescent green, so it's kind of obvious)

Scene, a small cabin where the two girls are sweeping under their cots. The other two campers that share the cabin are out for a swim in the lake.

Karrie:  Oh my goodness did you see that? She jumps on top of the cot, her weight almost collapsing the metal frame

Marla: What? She places a trunk on a empty cot and opens the latch, not paying much attention to Karrie

Karrie: The humongous spider hiding under the cot, Stands on a cot, scanning room for the monstrous creature

Marla: So kill it and help me find evidence. I know the girl in this cot stole my ring. She ransacks through the trunk of the camper she thinks has her ring

Karrie: Kill it? Did you see it?  This thing was gargantuan, with fangs dripping venom and beady little eyes. Ignores Marla making a mess of some poor innocent girl's personal belongings and continues to scan the cabin for the hideous demon.

Marla: Beady eyes hum, how can you tell if it had beady eyes? Finding no stolen ring, she crams the belongings back into the trunk, leaving a sock caught in between and twirls a blond lock of hair while trying to think.

Karrie:  It looked right at me with deadly intent Refuses to move off cot until danger of homicidal spider passes.

Marla: You're being ridiculous. I'm sure it's more afraid of you than you are of it. Shoves trunk under cot

Karrie:  I highly doubt it. Have you ever seen one screaming, "eek a human?"

Marla:  I think I see it. Did you mean this cute daddy long legs? Holds vile creature by one leg and tosses it at Karrie

Scene  A screen door being ripped off its hinges and a screaming blur of motion as Karrie runs in circles batting at her clothes and hair. Back in the cabin we find Marla rummaging through the belongings of the other camper. There's a knock on the door.

Marla: Who's there?

Sinister Stranger:  It is I, the sinister stranger

Marla: pretends to be frightened Oh no, you must leave right away, what if the girls come back and finds you here?

Sinister Stranger: Oh, so you are alone huh? Kisses Marla passionately

Marla:  What are you doing with this silly get up anyway? Removes his jacket with the words "sinister stranger" on it and tosses it on one of the empty cots.

Sinister Stranger: We're putting on a skit in our camp. I got the part of the sinister stranger, dorky, isn't it?

Marla:  No, you're kind of cute for being sinister

S.S.: Where are the other girls at? We're having a party later on and we want you all to come Takes off his t-shirt revealing well defined muscles and a bronze tan

Marla: Well Karrie is out there running from a daddy long leg and the other two went for a swim. This reminds me, I need to find the ring one of them stole from me. Feels torn between further searching for her ring and sitting next to the sexy sinister stranger, she counts on her fingers eeny, meeny miney moe on what she should do, but loses her place and has to start over.

S. S.: What on earth are you doing? He pats the cot, inviting Marla to join him

Marla: I'm trying to make up my mind

S. S.: maybe I could help gets off cot and flexes his rippling muscles, He realizes that it would be easier to solve the riddle of which came first, the egg or the chicken than for Marla to make up her mind.

S. S.  Why do you think the ring was stolen? Do you remember when you saw it last? Stops flexing long enough to pay scant attention to Marla, but could really care less about her silly ring. He is more interested in his well sculptured biceps.

Marla: I was getting ready to take a shower and I took it off and placed it on the sink, Paces the floor, twirling her blond locks, realizes doing both is too difficult and sits down, continues to twirl locks.

Marla: While I was in the shower, I heard the other girls come in. They were laughing and giggling. I was singing a Carrie Underwood song while washing my hair Starts to sing a song about destroying some guy's truck and forgets what she was talking about it

S. S.: Ok, so you're in the shower singing and the girls came in. What happened next?

Marla: Takes a minute to recollect her thoughts, ok, don't be judgmental, she needed several. She remembers where she left off. We know this because her mouth forms a perfect surprised little "O"   I remember now, I got out of the shower and grabbed a towel that was on the sink. I dried off and got dressed.

S. S.:  Did you look on the floor? Maybe it fell off .Walks toward sink and spots open drain.  He too gets an "aha" moment. He reaches his hand into drain opening but it is too big.  Rises up and gets a metal hanger off the floor. Marla admires his butt when he bends. Going back to the sink he bends the hanger and reaches in. He pulls out a ring, entwined in wet hair and soap scum. He hands it to Marla.

Marla: bats hair encrusted ring on to floor where it rolls and falls down shower drain. Ewww, I'm not wearing that ugly thing. Mystery solved, S.S, goes back to flexing his rippled triceps. Marla, twirls her blond locks, first on her right finger and then on her left. This act captivates her, Oh how pretty

Outside, Karrie is still running around in circles screaming "get it off me"

The End
