I am so tired of the "retard" drama.  Fighting this word is like hitting a brick wall...I get nowhere.  You would think that friends and family would be a little more sensitive to us having a child who is differentially abled, and NOT use that word, but guess I was wrong.

Last night, my husband and I were hanging out with some friends in our back yard when one of them kept dropping the "tard" bomb.  I let the first few fly by, trying to decide if it was worth the fight, and finally I couldn't take it anymore!  I told him politely not to use that word at our home.  That got me nowhere.  A few minutes later it was flying out of his mouth and I felt completely disrespected...in my own f-ing home!  GRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!

I admit, I am not perfect, I used that word in the past along with others, but having Eli completely changed that and I understand how offensive and hurtful they are.  There is no excuse to speak words like that other than lack of thinking.

I agree with you, people use that word too freely! I've "gotton on to" my kids for that and adults, it's a pet peeve of mine! Good for you speaking up, you might just have to be a little louder next time!!:)
