Last night my daughter came to me and told me that she had to ask me something. My 6 yo looks at me and asks me, "Mommy am I fat?" I was speechless! One of her classmates told my dd she was fat. OMG I was dumbfounded. This has me absolutely livid! Why did this girl do this to my 6yo? Is this a product of today's society? Is this a product of what goes on in her house??? Is this why girls have bad self esteem? I this think is a direct result of advertising and putting into our children's minds what is beautiful. For goodness sakes this is ridiculous.

As a child I went through constantly being told I was fat and not as pretty as my cousins! That did absolutely nothing for my esteem which in turn got me depressed which in turn caused me to over eat! After years of hell I left home to join the military just to escape. It took years just to get back some self esteem and this is something I still quietly battle with today at 41 years old. I have learned to put a smile on my face even when I am hurting inside! Don't people realize when you make fun of someone this affects the person for the rest of their lives!

I am still trying to figure out if I should talk with the teacher!

I would talk to the teacher.  It could be a teachable moment for the little girl/boy that told her that. Maybe she/he doesn't realize the weight of words. I'm sorry! I've struggled with my weight and self esteem. My little girl is two, and I don't want her to go through the same thing.

Best wishes to you!
