I'm inspired by all of the young ladies that were able to succeed WITHOUT being given a handout in the way that Title IX gives out quotes.  Hardworking young men are being denied opportunities in college sports due to the scholarship quotas that are handed out to young ladies. Its those gals that were able to succeed WITHOUT taking away opportunities from guys are the ones we ought to look up to.   We are setting a dangerous precedence of handing out scholarships to ladies that can barely run a mile or kick a ball ten feet while hardworking male athletes (like wrestlers) are seeing their sport eliminated.  This precedent encourages young ladies to rely on the "system" to provide them a hand-out instead of encouraging them to create opportunities thought hard work.  I refuse to allow my daughter to be part of this nonsense; I encourage her to succeed through her own resourcefulness instead of handouts.

Jun. 12, 2007 at 2:16 PM I have three daughters each who works very hard. Scholarships aren't "handouts" Each daughter is on the distinguished honor roll, and play sports. My ex and I have worked very hard to provide them with these opportunities, joining the boys and girls club has been expensive, and time consuming as we have coached them in basketball and softball. My girls now play sports for their school, basketball and track. I know when they go to college they won't just get scholarships for sports but their academic excellence. I don't know too many girls that get scholarships for being cute and their is ALOT of competition for these scholarships. If they are taking away from the boys, that is sad but I don't feel bad because I know in this day and age we live in, women still make less money than men, and get discriminated against it. I believe in empowerment and if you have the fortitude to move forward, and doing whatever it takes to get there. I try to be a strong rolemodel for my daughters and so far it has paid off. So if you think that scholarships are handouts I believe your wrong. But that is my humble opinion.
