German guilt?

I need to stop watching the History Channel. That, along with my own family tree search project, and all the other research I've done.. ugh. Is this what "white guilt" feels like? Okay, my direct ancestors left Germany in the 1700's to settle Louisiana under the LIES of John Smith of a promised new world. But, I have traced some other branches of my family, that were in Germany of the time of the Third Reich, and I'm not too proud of some of the names I see.
It's a very unsettling feeling I'm left with.
