OXFORD, Ohio - Police say that a 1-year-old boy was hit and killed by a car at the Miami Mobile Home Park on Michelle Drive in Oxford, Ohio around 4 p.m. Friday afternoon.
The child's mother momentarily left the boy with two older siblings on the sidewalk in front of the 100 block of Michelle Drive. She was speaking to the school bus driver about another child when the 1-year-old ran out into the street and stepped in front of an SUV, according to the Oxford Police Department.
The child was transported to McCullough-Hyde Hospital with life threatening injuries and pronounced dead a short time later.
"When they told us it just made us sick because I've got 20 grand kids and they range from the size that they say ran out in the street to teens, and this is something terrible," said Tammy Bailey, who has children that live in the mobile home park.
The driver of the car, Randalla C. Wright, is being detained for driving under suspension and for a warrant issued by the Fairfield Municipal Court. Police did not say why a warrant was issued for Wright.
Police have not released the name of the child that was killed.
