The characters Gooby, Toofy, and Woozy from the children’s show “My Bedbugs” are actually modeled after my children, Ryan, Chris, and Kelsey. Ryan is my eldest son. His nickname began as Gooby, although his nickname has now morphed to “Goobage” or “Goobs”. I don’t know why it changed, but it did. I’ll say “Goobage” and he (Ryan) replies back with “garbage.” We just laugh.

Ryan’s original nickname “Gooby” was given to him because when he was a baby he would always go cross-eyed. My husband and I would look over at him sitting in his highchair, looking at his fist, with his eyes crossed. We popped a baseball cap on him sideways and my husband said, “Hi I’m Gooby!” He looked so funny. Then every time we called him Gooby, he would laugh and smile. That is how he acquired his nickname. All my kids have silly nick names.

Chris and Kelsey are my twins, they also have some nicknames. Christopher is a boy and Kelsey is a girl. They are fraternal twins. A lot of people don’t understand the twin thing. Anyway, I will talk about that at a later date.

Christopher’s nickname is “Toofy” and Kelsey’s is Woozy. Christopher went from “Toopher” to “Toofy”, hence the blue bedbugs name “Toofy”. Christopher (Toofy) has curly blonde hair and his television character echoes his actual personality. He is loud and silly and the comedian of the family. His nickname has morphed quite a bit from Toopher to Toofy to Fritz to Fred. Fritz was the creation of his twin sister Kelsey’s inability to say his name correctly. She was actually saying “friss” but to me, it sounded like “Fritz”, so alas, Fritz was yet another nickname anchored to him. I haven’t a clue where Fred came from.
Kelsey is Christopher’s twin. Christopher is one minute older and he will forever hold that in Kelsey’s face. He is older then she is. Apparently, it means something very big to him, because he will never be the youngest child or the baby of the family. I suppose a minute is a minute.

Kelsey (Woozy) received her name while being rocked in her father’s arms. He would cradle her in his arms and swing her high up while saying, Kelsey Welsey Wooooooo, and on the Wooooo, he would spin her around in a circle. This playtime activity would just light up her cute little face. She would have a smile from ear to ear, and the cute little giggles were music to our ears. After a while, her nickname went from Kelsey Welsey Woo to Kelsey Welsey Whack. My eldest son Ryan (Gooby) came over to her and called her that. We laughed and asked him why he was calling her Kelsey Welsey Whack, and he just shrugged his shoulders and said I don’t know. (It’s in the genes.) The name stuck. This nickname was before she started walking. The name Woozy appropriately came during the time she started standing at the coffee table and letting go until those little rolled thighs couldn’t hold her up anymore. We would watch her comically try to balance then take a step or two and fall down on her bottom. It was at this time of her life she appropriately acquired the name “Woozy”. Woozy is the yellow character on the show.

Can anyone tell me if these cute little guys are available in retail stores anywhere? My 18 mo. old daughter goes into histarics when she sees them come on? Also, I have only seen them by having "On Demand" thru Charter Cable, are they on on other channels? I live in the St. Louis area?

Thanks

Jul. 16, 2007 at 9:48 PM Hi, I am so thrilled your daughter loves the show. If you only knew the thrill my husband and I get when we hear from moms and kids that enjoy the program. As far as the toys go, you should be able to get them online through Ty's Toy Box in about three months. We have 8 and 12 inch character plushes of all the characters including J.Edgar. We also have a Hide-N-Seek Snoozy which is adorable and easy for young children to use. We also have DVD's and CD's out there. Type in "My Bedbugs DVD's and CD's" and you should find out where you can purchase those items. Along with "on demand" our show is also aired on Trinity Broadcasting and Sky Angle, and we're on various PBS affiliates throughout the country. We are in 110 million homes! We are currently working on getting it to your area. You can help us out by contacting your local PBS affiliate and requesting our show! Go to our web site and join the Bug Club, we occasionally have free give aways and there are games and videos for the kids. I hope I have answered all of your questions. If not just write back.
Thanks for inquiring about our show and happy viewing.

Sincerely, Carol Sweeney
