Recently my  10 year old daughter  started to pee her pants.  She gets busy doing something and forgets to go to the bathroom when she is at home.  She has done it in the store, at relatives house and at home.  It hasn't happened at school yet, But it is very embarrassing to us when it happens.

I have talked to the pediatrician and he says it is probably immature kegal muscles.  How do you explain to a 10 year old that she needs to do kegal exercises?  to build up those muscles.  Can being overweight cause this?  Please any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Dec. 4, 2006 at 8:47 PM How much soda pop is she drinking? I know when my sister was about that age, if she had to much soda pop, she had trouble controling her bladder as well. I don't know if that is the cause of your daughter's wetting, but it's worth checking into.Wink

Thanks for the suggestion....My kids are not allowed to drink soda.  they drink sugar free juice, milk or I encourage drinking water.

Tell her straight out. Also buy her some Goodnights to wear during the day that way see won't have to have any embrassing accidents. Last thing a kids needs is another reason to not want to go to school!Wink

My daughter had problems with this in first grade. She was self aware and embarressed so in school she would raise her hand every 5 minutes to go to the bathroom. We had tests done on her and found that she had an oversensitive bladder(when she just had a few milliliters of urine in her bladder it would feel the need to go)...she was on some medication for it for a month or so and then a bladder training program and in a couple months she was back to normal. Her teacher at school was wonderful in understanding and letting  her go to the bathroom when ever she needed.

My son also had problems with control but it was more due to his learning disabilities, adhd etc.  i tried the pullups on him but he fought me trying to get them on...he was embaressed of those but not of wet or dirty pants, I guess he didn't think anyone else would know if he had an accident. He too, would just be so busy and not take breaks from playing to go to the bathroom. I finally started training him like a puppy...every hour I made him go...I had to be the one to remind him. he hated it for a bowel movement because as part of his disabilities he just hates the act of going...but once a day I made him sit there until he went...it took a while to train him but now we have no more accidents.

is she  anxious about anything ?? My son has this problem sometimes its because he gets busy with something and he doesnt' want to stop and sometimes its because he is afraid to ask to go to the bathroom when he isn't at home. His counselor told us when his stress level comes down he will be better but in the mean time if he has an accident to just get him cleaned up and tell him to try harder next time not to yell or reprimand him. He is also 10..and has been through alot in his short little life hence the stress levels.
