I as well was the first female on an all men's team when I played in college back in 1990.  I made the cut over several boys who tried out.  I played left mid-field travelled with the men's team, got my own locker room at away games and heard the comments from opposing players every time I stepped out onto the field "why is the score-keeper suited?".  It took a while for the men on my team to warm up to the idea, but once they realized I could play with the best of them they became my brothers for life.  Two years following my stint on the men's team, we started a girls team and now my former college has a sactioned girls program.  I still love the sport although I cannot play as I used to, I tore my ACL in 1993 and haven't played as much since.

I am glad to see a movie has been produced about this, to continue to bring home the fact that the girls can stand up with the boys even in a contact sport
