I have been married for 9 yrs.  I have 2 wonderful children.  After being out of school for about 18 years, I have decided to go back and get my degree.  I decided to become a teacher.  I homeschool my 7 yr old son now.  He was in public school for 3 yrs.  That was a nightmare for us.  That is why I decided to homeschool.  We love it.Cool

Jan. 20, 2007 at 8:13 AM I am impressed to hear that you homeschool your son.  As a public school teacher, I am impressed with anyone who is willing to take on this awesome responsibility.  Just keep in mind that my husband is still amazed after 10 years how much work is done outside of school.  Teaching is NOT an 8-3 job with 3 months off.  I work at minimum 2 hours a night at home and spend the summers taking classes and getting ready for the next year......not to mention the phone calls that I get at home all of the time and that I cannot go anywhere without having a parent of one of my students want to talk to me.  Please do not misunderstand.....I love my job!!!, but it is a lifestyle change if you are not used to it.

Jan. 20, 2007 at 10:35 PM I am not against all public schools.  It is just that if you don't play completely by the priniciple's rules your out.  She is the one in charge and she doesn't appreciate any suggestions.  Some of the teachers are the same way.  They act as though the students shouldn't have a mind of their own.  My son at the end of 1st grade was reading on a 5th grade level.  He needed to be challenged.  His kindergarten teacher did challenge him but his 1st grade teacher said that if he already the the stuff too bad.  She would not help him except just keep doing.  I have seen papers brought home with correct answers and she has marked the wrong.  When something is said to her she denies it and says it was changed at home which it wasn't.  The principal will not help any parent.  If a teacher stands up for themselves she finds a way to fire them.  This is why I decided to home-school.  I substituted for 4 years,  One year that I was substituting a teacher just up and quite because of the principals ways.  I was put in that room until a teacher was hired.  I understand to a small extent what teachers go through.  I admire them.  I am going to school now to get my teaching degree.  I just am not going to allow teachers to pick on my son like it was done.  He was not the only one.  I saw it done to many a students.  Homeschooling is great.  I love it and my son does too.  We get alot completed and I have been allowed to advance him like he needs to be done.  Thanks to all the comments on this.
