"Memory is a way of holding onto the things you love, the things you are, the things you never want to lose. " - The Wonder Years
Memorial Day Weekend 2007 has been one of the best in years. Erick and I chose to stay home this weekend and kind of wing it, instead of making more formal plans. In most years we have decided to either go out to the lake for the weekend with my family or spend time with his family. I don't recall the last time we spent the holiday weekend by ourselves - and it was kind of nice.
On Friday night I went over to my friend Jeanette's place to have a girls night - a much needed girls night I might add. Jeanette had thought of this great idea of picking up the movie Running With Scissors and watch it together as we had both enjoyed the book. We are still debating the question of "How true is it?" We are both very up for hearing any other opinions on this. I believe that both Jeanette and I believe that its too insane not to be true. The movie sucked - so if your considering it just skip the movie and read the book. :) I really had a nice time hanging out - so nice of a time that I didn't get home until after 2 am!!
Saturday night Erick and I met up with our friends Todd, Julie and Jason for a super nerd night out. Julie came up with the great idea that we see Spiderman at the IMAX on the worlds biggest movie screen! So we did. I had been to the IMAX a few times but I must say - this was the best. I really enjoyed seeing Spidey there - and look forward to seeing others there as well. I had to laugh when Erick and Todd were talking about the historical accuracy of the movie.... truly concepts over my head! After the movie we went out to Ruby Tuesday's for drinks and some dessert before we all headed home exhausted! We did breifly talk about seeing Transformers .... so perhaps that will be our 4th of July weekend plans!
By the time Sunday rolled around I was exhausted. Erick had taken Grace both Friday and Saturday night if she would wake up so I could sleep. (She had a heck of a time Saturday night sleeping!) I got up with Grace about 8:30 and decided that I'd take the noisey baby out of the house with me and go to church - the whole family could sleep in that way! Grace and I met up with Pam & Eric and family at church. Grace did pretty well for the most part, we went to about 70% of the service, spending about 15-20 minutes in the nursery during the sermon. It was a nice way to start the day - a real work out!
The kids enjoyed time outside in the sun playing in the sandbox, the swingset, and running. Thea had her friends Alex and Makenna over to play in the back yard. I enjoyed watching them all play so nicely together. I took a bunch of pictures of them playing. The four of them enjoyed some popscicles in the back yard before the afternoon was done.
Erick and I met up with Julie & Todd and Desta & Tom at a carnival up the street. The kids enjoyed going on rides - and Nina, Desta and I enjoyed the "Tilta-whirl" which is my favorite ride of all time. (Brings back many many childhood memories!) I brought my camera and snapped a bunch of cute pictures of the kids! The carnival was pretty small - which was good because an hour was just enough time to get the kids out to ride on a few rides and make it back home with out any melt-downs!
Memorial Day we decided to ask our friends Aaron and Kellie next door, to join us at the Minnesota Zoo. Our kids absolutely love the zoo - and it was just a perfect day! We spent a few hours walking around the zoo enjoying the company of our friends. (For zoo pictures click here.)
The weekend was as close to perfect as I can imagine a weekend. Erick and I are very blessed to have such good friends in our lives!
