That's what we call people that come to our door spreading God's Good Word.
Two very nice African American women wanted to tell me about the root of evil, which I never quite got to, and where I could find the answer in the Bible. I simply told them that I was of another faith. They didn't question me. But luckily I have a very talkative 6yr old who was grilling them, instead of letting them talk. lol.
One of them recognized me from a previous job, and we talked about that for a bit. It's been 2 yrs since I've moved into this house and haven't had someone knock on my door preaching. Guess there's a first for everything.
The thing about me is that I believe religion/faith is a personal thing. What might be right for one person, might not be right for another. You cannot tell me that I don't believe the same as you that I am going to hell, or a bad person. That is why we have so much crap in the history books. People trying to make others the same as them. Kinda reminds me of The Lorax, where they keep changing their stars to fit in with the others. Can't we be different and still be equal?
And it is my thought that the Bible wasn't written by God. It was written by MEN. Translatted and edited several times over. Sure, you can learn a thing or two, but some people take it too literal. Just be a good person. It's called Cause and Effect, Karma, yin-yang, whatever. It's a give and take. You can't go listen to a person speak and be a better person. You, YOU, have to live it. I know too many people that talk the talk, but can't walk the walk. So many contridications.
I'm not telling you your faith is wrong, so stop telling me mine is. See the other side, take a step back, and go, "Wow, maybe I can see where they are coming from". I see your point. Can you see mine?
I'm not looking for a debate, just expressing an opinion.
Comments:
Just tell them you are lesbian and you have a wife. And you both practise witchcraft.
That usually does it.
Where I live we don't get much door-to-door-religion-sellers. Sometimes some American LDS people. All I need to tell them is that I am gay and they run screaming away(I'm always very friendly).
I couldn't agree with you more!!!
I don't have a problem with people being who they want to be, and I don't expect them to have a problem with who I choose to be.
Last time we had a knock like that at the door, my husband said..."I'll let you talk to my wife."
I simply told them I was Pagan and watched as they darn near dropped their bibles.
Too funny.
I told these two mormon dudes I was wiccan and either they didn't hear or they pretended not to (I think it was the later). So they kept talking about how their way is the only way and such (which I let them because they were cute). Anyways, they left really quick after I started flirting with the older "elder"... lol
Did I mention I was 6 months pregnant at the time? XD hahaha
I loved the time where i was getting ready to go out, answering the door in just white make-up, black corsette just getting laced while I was gripping the door they were knocking on. LOL I think it was teh funniest thing. I answered the door and they were falling all over themselves. I was like can I help you, you're at my door for something. Water, Tea? They both stared and then I said well I'm going to have to charge you if you keep standing there. They laughed and i said that it looked like they were of such and such religion, and they said they were, I told them i was happily pagan, but that if they ever needed someone to talk to they could come by. To this day one of them comes by every week and has tea with me, and last year joined in Winter Solstice rituals with me and mine.
Patience and Love is what works best.
Even when you don't feel like it.
