NURSING PUPPIES

So, we took away the puppies from Chi-Chi right after they turned a week old.  She started out having 10 puppies, and now there is only 4.  She killed all the rest of them.  Somehow, someway this big dog couldn't feel her puppies underneathe her and smothered almost all of them..  I know she didn't do it on purpose, she just wasn't caring anymore.  She also wasn't giving them the attention that she had been giving.

Let me tell ya, bottle feeding puppies is hell!  First we had to get these little bottles and some nasty formula.  They wouldn't take to it at first, but I guess when they realized that it was food, they'd eat a little bit.  But I guess pitbull puppies are bigger than the average pups at a week, so the bottles and nipples were extremely too small.  It was such a battle to feed them.  They couldn't suction there tongue around it, so they'd go crazy sniffing around on me for a nipple.  And then you have to rub their privates with a wet paper towel so they will pee.  Cuz normally the mommy licks them and she cleans up the urine.  It is so disgusting.

So, my first night staying up with puppies was nerve-racking.  They need to be fed like every 2-3 hours (kinda like an infant, just i had 4 of them) and let them use the bathroom about every 1 or so.  Everytime I would get layed down and comfortable, one of them were screaming for something... It is so much harder to nurse these babies, than it was to take care of shaquan when he was a baby.  He was a complete angel compared to these brats.  They can't see yet, so they are all over the place, getting milk all over me, pooping on me when I am least expecting it.  The females (we have two boys and two girls) were always making noise.  They get quite crazy and obnoxious.  The males, once they got ahold of the nipple, they ate and went to sleep.  I guess in every animal, females are just bitches.. got to make everything difficult!

So I am pretty tired.  And finally have a brief moment to write this. I just know, I have to do this for about a month!  Great, my whole month of June is shot down the drain!  Hopefully we'll make a little bit of money off of them.

Well, today Toby came home with some regular bottles (i threw away all shaquan's old ones) and they work like a charm.  Instead of taking an hour and a half to feed 4 pups, it takes about 30-45 minutes!  And I am so thankful!

Shaquan is so jealous of the puppies.  Whenever I am feeding him, he wants to hang all over me.  Any other time, he stays away from me.  But he's extremely curious about them.  Wants to touch them and hold them.  But they are only a week and 2 days, they are very fragile.

So everyone, keep me in your prayers, I don't want to go crazy by the end of this month!!

WOW our female pit bull had 10 puppies too, but she took care of all of them they all were really healthy, we still have 3 and 2 need a home one female and one male they are part border collie too, they are 7 months old now,  they are really cute, I couldnt imagine having to bottle feed them, we did that with 2 of our cats as their mother abandoned them and we couldnt just leave them, one passed form cancer and the other is still healthy and is 15yrs old

Oh, Lady!  I know the pain you're in!! I had to do this with 11 rottie pups!!  11!!  My mama dog got sick and nearly died.  She was a good mama, she just couldn't feed them anymore!!  I was grateful I didn't have any kids yet, and wasn't working.  By about 4-5 weeks old, I'd taught them to drink on thier own out of a pan on the floor.  I'd put it on a thick towel to absorb all the mess and feedings got MUCH easier!!

Good luck!!
