We have been using that approach as well - he runs around naked half the time! lol At least he's using the bathroom more often than if he just put him in a pull-up.
I'm not having any luck transitioning either, but I know that a lot of the Pre-K kids at the school we started him in say that as long as they know HOW to use the potty they do fine... most of them don't bother to take the time to go to the bathroom anyway, trained or not! I just sent Caden in a pull-up anyway, it's only 3 hours.
With my son we made him "earn" his underwear and pants. If he wet in them he would lose them and then each time he went in the potty he earned either the underwear or the pants back. It worked great he was potty training in one weekend all but the BM...that took threating Santa Claus not coming (we did this in Nov/Dec).
Good LUck this is very frustrating. Someone told me when we were going through the potty training that no elementary kids go to school in diapers still so it will come to him eventually. Just be patient.
i started potty training my boy just a few weeks ago ... i stopped buying pampers .... when Nikko wakes up first thing in the morning, I take him to the potty ... works out great that he always sees dad go when he is home... i them take him every 1/2 hour whether or not he has to go ... i tell him, "When you are done going pee pee in the potty, then you can have our buzz light year at the table", "When you are done going to the potty, THEN we can practice your letters" ... he runs and doesn't want me to watch him but i stand right outside of the door ... he goes and I make a big deal out of it! " Tell him the underwear feel nasty if they get wet and will stink! He screws up his face - it's comical! Every night, I let him see only ONE of the pull ups and I tell him, "We only have one pull up so we are saving it for when you go to bed" .... little does he know the entire bag is in my closet! He has been doing well for 3 weeks, even out at the store.... i take him even if he says he does not have to go ....
I have also heard that "aiming for the cheerio" is a lot of fun for boys... i just heard this yesterday though I have not tried yet! .. boys are so different from girls I will say that! :-)
Good luck!! and have fun laughing!
