My youngest son is 4 months old.  For the past 3 1/2 months he has been the sweetest little boy.  Never cried unless he was hungry, wet or tired.  He loved to play in his bouncy, swing, tummy time ect.  The past two weeks he seems like a completely different baby.  Out of nowhere he will start these crying fits where nothing calms him down.  He'll scream, his face will turn red, he'll tense his whole body, his hands will make fits and shake.  He isn't interested in any of his toys.  He'll play in them for about 2 minutes to 5 minutes before starting a screaming fit.  The only way to calm him down is to lay him over my shoulder wrapped in his balnket while I walk the floor.  I spits up alot when he eats now and he didn't use to do that.  When he was born he was born with fluid on his lungs.  He was in the nicu fjor two days and released with no problems.  At 5wks old they found he had a heart murmur.  WE took him to a specialist who said it wouldn't cause him any problems.  With that in the back of my mind I always worry that it could be something serious.  We took him to the doctor 3 days ago and they thought it might be reflex.  So they put him on Zantac, but that doesn't help.  He still spits up and still has those crying fits at least twice a day.

Jul. 5, 2007 at 11:29 AM HE may be cutting  teeth and that hurts   the poor  little fella and then he may also have an earache and they can screma  bloody  murder when that happens  if you take to to have it checked they have  numbing drops  for the ears now that is  wonderful   and  too he may be colicky (msp)  but  try to block out the cries and  search for the problem  rub  his gums if he stops  crying  or tries to then it is teeth  watch to see if he pulls at his ear or ears   jsut  try to be patient and  rock and rock and rock  lol  that can be tough at times but so rewarding  for both of you ....

Jul. 5, 2007 at 11:32 AM I went thru the same thing. For me the only thing that worked was walking the floor or just standing up and holding her.  It lasted a few weeks but no it is completely gone and she is the sweet baby she was to being with.

Jul. 5, 2007 at 1:05 PM It sound like a formula problem to me,does he calm down when there is pressure on his tummy? Thats what was wrong with my son, it sounds almost the same to me, does he have a rash or anything? My son was allergic to reg formula and soy and had to have predigested formula called Alimentum (sp?). Call or go to the doctor and ask them about that. Once they changed that he was a very happy boy! Hope that helps, it is just a thought!

No my son doesn't have a rash.  Part of his crying could be from teething because my oldest son who is now 20 months old got his first tooth at 3 months of age.  Only with him he didn't cry all of the time like Nolan my youngest son is.  My oldest son spit up all the time from the time he was born, but was never thought to have reflux or an allergy to certain formula.  I was concerned when he was 5 weeks old because he wasn't pooping everyday more like every other day and when he would poop it would be solid and black in color.  My doctor informed me that it was okay for babies not to poop everyday that everything was fine.  Well to this day he still doesn't poop everyday and most of the time it is blackish brown and more solid than anything.  That along with crying fits, spitting up, having a heart murmur, and being so small I don't know what to make of all this.
