Anyone know what remedy, if any, I should use for a burn on my leg??  A friend of ours just got a motorcycle and I went on my first ride - - OMG! It was so fun!.  Anyway, I burned my leg on the exhaust pipe when I was getting off.  Didn't think it was too bad until now (looks like maybe 2nd degree).  Its starting to bubble and not looking so good.  Any help appreciated!

Jul. 6, 2007 at 1:45 PM For the pain I would get some burn spray. It has analgesic (SP) in it that will help with the pain. Also depending on how bad the burn is you might want to try some aloe vera. Not lotion w/ aloe vera but the actual aloe vera.

Jul. 6, 2007 at 2:03 PM Aloe Vera gel is great!! Also, if you can find anything with Silvadene (sp?) that helps a great deal to prevent scarring.  I had 2nd degree burns on my left wrist, and I have no scarring whatsoever due to using that. Don't yanno you aren't supposed to put your leg there? ;-I

Jul. 6, 2007 at 2:07 PM If it's not bad enough to have checked out...I would try the burn spray as well.  Check near the anticeptics/neosprin/bug spary section of whatever store you shop at.  It's similar to Lidocaine...it will help numb it a bit.  Don't put anything greasy on it (neosporin) because that will keep air from getting in and the burn may actually worsen.  Of course...you could always see your doctor.  They'll give you something like Sylvadine (sp?) cream.  It's wonderful.  In middle school I accidently burned my hand on the stove and had 2nd and 3rd degree burns.  That cream helped out a lot.

Hye~ I am late to the party but burn spray (in any first aid aisle) and once it starts to heal over Vitamin E oil is great for helping prevent scars.

Hope you're OK.

Rebecca,

Go to the doctor and get a prescription for the burn if needed, but have a doctor at least look at it! The doctor may need to remove the burned skin and a treatment for the burn and hopefully scar may be needed. I did learn in a first aid class that cool/cold water NO ICE CUBES should be relieved on a burn, allow water to cool down your burn until it feels better. Ice cubes will blister a burn. All the best and take care of the burn as soon as possible. FYI there are scar treatments available per doctor or over the counter ie, scar band aides, gels, etc. But get a professionals opinion first! Let me know what happens! Ellen
