Everytime I have to get out the door by a specific time, the kids take their time. They don't seem to understand what "hurry up" means. So I get frustrated, they get frantic, everybody needs something at the last minute... it's just bad.
But then you get in the car and go. It's especially nice when you are going someplace for them and they don't know it. Suddenly you are the world's best mommy because they get to play at COSI (Center of Science and Industry) with their friends and other kids their age. You get to relax because it's a safe area for them to roam. You can sit down and not have to worry about where they are or what they are doing.
When it's time to leave, you feel bad because you know that they would love to do nothing more than continue to run around all day. But you need to get dinner started and laundry going. So you pack them back up into the car (making sure they have sippy cups and snacks, of course!) and head home. It sure does get quiet in the backseat on the way home! And when you get home, the first thing you get to do is to put two very content, sleeping babies in their beds.
Yes, all of that frustration, anxiety and hurry was worth it.
