My son is going to be 2 in June and he still wakes up at night. He goes back to sleep but he still wakes up for his cup. I just give him water so its not like its something exciting such as juice. But, I have tried feeding him a little something before bed and that still doesn't work. He sleeps until about 2:30 usually but sometimes its only till 12 or so. I don't know what else to do. Any ideas???

At this point he's probably getting up out of habit.  Maybe you should go into his room and not give him anything.  Just tuck him in again.  Then just go to the door and tell him sweetly to get back to sleep.  When his body realizes it's not going to get anything he may just sleep thru.  Good luck!

Jan. 29, 2007 at 10:11 AM I agree that it's probably just a habit now. The cup is a substitution for a bottle. He's used to getting it, and when he wakes up he needs it as a comfort thing to go back to sleep. Don't give him anything when he wakes up, just let him go back to sleep on his own. Now, if he continues to wake up after awhile when he knows he's not getting anything, I don't know what to tell you! My daughter will be 2 in April, and she still wakes up most nights!

Jan. 29, 2007 at 10:12 AM We just went through this with our son a few months ago, he turned two in November!  I weaned him off his sippy cup during the day cause he was drinking a lot of milk and therefore not eating, he doesnt drink as much with a regular cup and straw setup but he eats more  and it seems to really help!  Like the other lady said it also maybe out of habit, so try not giving it to him (hard if he is like my son who would continue to whine for it) and just tucking him back in !
