SAD NEWS AT OUR HOME

TODAY WAS A REALLY SAD DAY HERE AT OUR HOME. WE HAD TO TAKE OUR HOUSE CAT TO THE VET AND HAVE HIM PUT TO SLEEP. I KNEW THE DAY WAS DRAWING NEAR, HE WAS DIAGNOSED 4 YEARS AGO WITH FeLV  ( FELINE LUEKEMIA VIRUS) , IT WAS NOT TO BAD AT THE TIME , AND OUR VET URGED US TO TAKE HIM HOME AND ALLOW HIM TO LIVE OUT HIS REMAINING DAYS. HE SAID YOU WILL NO WHEN THINGS START GONE DOWN HILL AND ITS TIME FOR HIM TO GO. WELL WE HAD HIM FOR 4 YEARS AFTER THAT, BUT COULD NOT HAVE ANY OTHER CATS ON THE PLACE BECAUSE IT IS CONTAGIOUS IN CATS. A LOT OF CAT BREEDERS REFER TO THIS ILLNESS AS CATS AIDS , AFTER YOU GET RID OF THE INFECTED CAT YOU STILL HAVE TO WAIT SIX MONTHS BEFORE HAVING ANYMORE KITTENS OR CATS AROUND.THE VIRUS IS PASSED THROUGH THERE SALIVA, MOTHERS MILK, FECES, ANY OF THE CATS SECRETIONS. EVEN FLEAS CAN TRANSMIT THE DESEASE.  HE HAD BEEN LOSING A LOT OF WEIGHT IN THE LAST 4 MONTHS, HAVING DIAHREA, VOMITING, AND THEN LAST NIGHT WE WITNESSED A MAJOR SEIZURE. HE WAS FEED AT ALL TIMES, WE NEVER TOOK HIS FOOD DISH UP AWAY FROM HIM , HE WOULD EAT 3 CANS OF THE BEST WET CAT FOOD MONEY COULD BUY PER DAY PLUS HE ALWAYS HAD DELI CAT FOOD AVAILABLE. WHEN HE FIRST WAS DIAGNOSED HE WEIGHED 23 POUNDS, WHICH IS PRETTY FAT FOR A CAT, TODAY I BET HE DIDN'T WEIGH 10 POUNDS. I WAS ALMOST ASHAMED OF MYSELF FOR ALLOWING HIM TO GET THIS BAD, BUT THE TRUTH IS , IT AINT EASY TAKING AN ANIMAL THAT YOU LOVE TO  HIS DEATH. MY MOTHER RAISED US TO BE KIND TO OUR ANIMALS, AND AFTER THE SEIZURE LAST NIGHT I KNEW IT WAS TIME , HE WAS SUFFERING. I COULD HAVE BROUGHT HIS BODY HOME AND BURIED IT , BUT I TOLD MY SON ( HE WAS CRYING ) AND HE SAID NO , I CAN'T STAND SEEING HIM AFTER THEY PUT HIM TO SLEEP. SO IN ORDER TO MAKE IT A LITTLE EASIER ON HIM I LEFT THE CAT THERE FOR THEM TO BURY. I DREAD THE DAY WE HAVE TO MAKE THE SAME JOURNEY WITH OUR LITTLE HOUSE DOG, BUT I KNOW SOMEDAY IT WILL COME TOO. ANIMALS ARE WONDERFUL AT GIVING LOVE AND AFFECTION , BUT ITS SO HARD GIVING THEM UP IN THE END . SO HERE WE ALL ARE TONIGHT WE ARE HEART BROKEN , AND I EVEN FEEL A BIT GUILTY FOR BEING THE ONE TO MAKE THE ARRANGMENTS AND CARRING THEM OUT.

I am so sorry that you had to let your baby go. My cat is always doing stuff but, I don't know what I would do if she ever became terminally ill.

I am so sorry for your loss.  I have two dogs that are 15 and one who is 10 and I dread the day they will go.  Not being able to have another cat for six months makes it doubly hard.  I lost a dog in 1992 and I grieve for him to this day.

I am sorry for your loss.  I know how much you love animals and it's always hard to see a friend go.  Are you going to have a small ceremony for him?  My sister had to put to sleep my cat (she had been caring for him) because he had a massive brain tumor.  She got a memorial stone kitty that would have been placed at his gravestone and placed his colar around it.  Maybe you could do something like this to memorialize him.  I know some might think it's stupid to do that with pets, but they must not realize how much you grow to love and cherish your pets.

YES WE WILL BE BUYING A MEMORIAL STONE OR SOME SORT OF MARKER FOR HIS GRAVE SITE. I'M NOT IN A RUSH THOUGH WE NEED TIME TO HEAL A BIT FIRST. I ALSO HAVE TAKEN ALL HIS DISHES AND REMAINING CAT FOOD TO THE ANIMAL SHELTER AND DONATED THEM . I HAVE A HUGE CAT TREE IN MY HOUSE THAT WILL HAVE TO BE REMOVED BY MY HUSBAND THIS WEEK-END. EVERYTIME I LOOK THAT DIRECTION I GET A HORRIBLE FEELING DOWN DEEP IN MY STOMACH.THANK ALL OF YOU GIRLS FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING, SOME PEOPLE DON'T REALIZE THAT SOME PEOPLE CONSIDER THEY'RE ANIMALS PART OF THE FAMILY. THIS PARTICULAR CAT WAS WITH OUR FAMILY FOR 11 YEARS, AND WE ALL LOVED HIM.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know how rough it is, our animals are an extension of our family. At least you know that he is not hurting anymore, and he is at peace.

11 years is a long time...love over that time develops that you can't even put into words.  I am sorry for your loss and my prayers are all for you to get through this. I know you are a strong woman, but sometimes even the loss of a precious famly friend can humble the strongest person in the world.  Love you!

My heart goes out to you! I know just how you feel. I had my dog for about 10 years. Skipper was apart of my heart. He was like my other child. Loved him so much. He died about 2 years ago. Just about broke my heart. I still think of him nearly every day! I miss him that much. Then I had to have my cat put down right before this past Christmas. It was heart wrenching! I also dread the day when something happens to my dog that I have now. She's only almost 3 and if she even acts funny I just about freak out thinking that there is something wrong with her. I don't think I can handle going throught his again but I have already had her for 2.5 years and she is already in my heart and a part of my family! They get to be just like our kids!
