I was reading a book yesterday and a phrase in the book got me thinking about the two words, could and should. Should has, at times, a negative connotation to it. For example: "Shame on you, you SHOULD have....." Whereas could implies that you have the power of choice. "That's too bad, you could have...." I had never thought of it that way before. I'm glad I have this journal to write in. Even if I'm the only one who reads it, just writing down my "epiphany" will help me remember it. My memory has been so much worse since I got so sick 1 year ago. I'm feeling so much better but have a lot of healing still to do. I am going to try and use could instead of should with my children both at home and at school. Giving them the power of choice is supposed to help them learn to be more responsible.
