halloween costume?

i've been contemplating what to dress my son up as for halloween.  i like to have a decision made by the beginning of september so i have plenty of time to make it.  i've been thinking maybe a pirate would be good. 

i was also considering peter pan, although that would involve a hat... which he's not fond of.

i'm taking suggestions.  he won't wear anything on his head, and it's gotta be something that's either big enough to wear warm clothes underneath (we usually have snow on the ground by halloween) or something that can be made out of fleece.

any ideas?
