Sierra's only 16 lbs and is 14 months old. She is below the percentlie and it has been that way for months now and now her weight is bothering me yet again! I've tried almost everything for her to gain weight.

She's lactose intolorant (just found out a few days ago) so she can't have whole milk, she doesn't like avacados and hasn't eaten much lately (only cherios) She loves her soymilk also so I guess that's a good thing. She's begining to hate eggs (I don't feed it often to her), but only gained a few onces in a month and it's starting to worry me, the visiting nurse and the doctor.

I'm running out of options on how to get her to pack the pounds. I'm open to anything at this point... I need some advice. I'm not sure weather to give her the soy formula specialated for toddlers, breakfast drinks, or anything at this point. She's crawling all over the place so she's buring a lot of calories at this point.  She's a peanut.... She was small at birth (only 5lbs 14 1/4 oz).

Does anyone have any advice at this point on how to apporach this? anyone have an experience or the same problem as me...

Aug. 30, 2007 at 8:50 AM why don't you try more pasta. Carbs are a good way for kids to gain weight.  My daughter eats a lot of mac and cheese.  I know your daughter can't handle the milk, but you can make other kinds of pasta with veggies and stuff in it.  My daughter likes it too, because it's easy to pick up.  She likes to feed herself.  Rice is good too.  See if that helps.

Aug. 30, 2007 at 9:17 AM What percentile is she? My son was small too Still is actually and he is 6 now. He was on 5 lbs 14 oz at birth and was only like 20 lbs at at like 2 years old he only weighs 40 lbs now most people think he is about 4 years old. I am 6ft tall my daughter weighs 22lbs and is 15 months old.  I kept my son on formula even after he was tweleve months old, try pasta, . Or lactaid  Pediasure if u can afford it , it is expensive but we would buy some every pay day for our son and now they have those snack bars too. But don't overload on junk food trying to pack on weight because that will teach her the wrong way to eat. Some kids are just small I have come to think maybe my husband was just small when he was little, b/c I know I wasn't but we don't knw if he was his father wasn't around and his mom can't remember. so ask ur parents were u and  babys dad small babys? hope this helps :)

my daughter also is underweight. she's had the "failure to thrive" diagnosis since 9 months old (she's 19 months now). and she has a milk allergy too. so no high calorie high fat dairy to chuck her up...

i add oil to whatever i can (her GI dr and nutritionist suggested this). a teaspoon of veggie oil adds 40 calories and 4 grams of fat! so, i add some to her morninng oatmeal. i add oil to her couscous, to her pasta. i put a vegan oil spread (like butter) on her bagel and toast...anything i can to get extra calories into her.

good luck! i'm glad you joined the underweight babies group (that's how i found you). i hope we can be helpful. i'm also part of the lactose intolerant/dairy allergy moms group. check us out.

your daughter is GORGEOUS! some babies are just little! (that's what claire's GI dr told us last week at our last check up..)
