Last night my son fell down our stairs and hit the marble landing at the bottom.  I was horrifed, I saw he fall, but couldn't catch him.  I feel so so guilty and upset at myself...........He ended up (thank god) with a fat lip and bloody nose only......I feel like I a bad mom, I suppose to protect him and I let him fall.........  I didn't sleep last night, I just watched his sleep all night.......

Aug. 30, 2007 at 12:27 PM If it's any consolation, it happens to all of us. One of the things I have learned is that we cannot protect our kids from everything, no matter how much we may try. Beating yourself up is of no use. Better to look around the house and ask how you can make it safe for him to explore while allowing yourself the ability to take your eyes off him for a few minutes.

I feel the same way. Braden was siitting on the floor today & before I could get to him he tumbled right over & hit his nose on the leg of the TV tray. he now has a red line going across his nose.

Aug. 30, 2007 at 1:51 PM  We cannot be there 100% of the time. I have to agree that you may need to look and see if you can make it safer so you can have peace of mind when you can't have you eye on him every minute..My 3 yr old this spring got hit in the head with a golf club we saw it coming but couldn't move fast enough 10 stitches later shes fine needless to say the golf clubs went in the trash..

Sep. 2, 2007 at 10:24 AM My daughter fell off the bed when I was standing right there! We do everything we can to protect them, and never let them feel any pain, but it's impossible to never let anything happen to them. It's a sign of a great mom that you feel the way you do. You wouldn't feel so bad if you were a bad mom!  Remember, we all have those momets!
