This is funny! Not as in funny HA HA! But funny OH!
Tuesday night I was dispatched in truck 31 (for those of you who are not familiar with me, I am a truck driver and currently drive a dump truck). On my way to pick up my first load of green beans I noticed that the floor board of the truck was really, really hot. So hot that it felt like my feet and legs were being burnt. Soooo, when I got to the field I told the supervising mechanic about it. He asked if the gauges were reading hot and I told him no but that something was definitely wrong. He shrugged and said he'd take a look at it but that he wanted me to switch trucks when I got back to the plant. Not b/c of the problem but b/c he wanted me to bring one of our bigger trucks back out. OK then!
When I got back to the plant and did my paperwork, etc. I noted what was happening and told the dispatch supervisor about it and then turned in the keys to 31 and checked out a bigger truck. Well....... last night, they dispatch another driver in truck 31 and on his way back to the plant with his first load the truck BURST INTO FLAMES! Seriously! It took the fire department an hour to put it out! There is a huge burn mark on the highway! OMG, if I hadn't had to take that truck back Tuesday night that would'ved been me! The driver is OK! On my way back with one of my loads I stopped to check on him. The fire had already been put out and he was waiting for them to come pick him up and tow the truck in. It was an unreal site. There was nothing left! Where there were once tires were only rims and steel belts!
Crazy days of summer hey! I'm still scratching my head as to why they would go ahead and send that truck out after being told it wasn't running right.
