Okay, I haven't written many posts, but I am just so proud of my 9 1/2 year old daughter (PDD-NOS) I had to write. Today was the first day of 4th grade. She takes the bus, but I told her this morning I was going to follow in my car, and when she got off the bus I'd help her find her teachers. It's a little chaotic the first day, with the teachers holding up signs outside, near the flagpole, and the kids have to find their teacher and get in line. (Mind you, this school is K-5, so that's a lot of teachers and kids..) My daughter said, no, don't come, I'll be embarrassed. I said ok, let me put a sticky on your backpack with your teachers' names, in case you forget. Nope. She said, "don't worry, mom, I'll figure it out." I could have cried. So many times I am there with the safety net, and she reminds me again and again that it isn't needed. In reference to another mom's post from yesterday, I guess autism may have me, but it doesn't have her one damn bit.
