I tell ya, color coding my girls was the best advice I took from other moms of multiples. Avery is purple and Ally is pink. Whenever I buy outfits, I get one of each color or find comparable outfits that coordinate (Carters is especially good for that). Their bottles, blankets, toys, cribs, pacifiers, sippy cups, spoons, and car seat toys are all color coded so no one has to "think" ... a dropped paci? Who had it last? OK, it's pink, gotta be Ally's. Who gets green beans (Ally might be allergic)and who gets peas? OK, Avery is purple and Ally is pink... pretty simple. It really helps with Grandmas and Aunts and well meaning friends who just can't tell your kids apart yet and avoids confusion... most of the time.
I'm not totally "anal" about the color coding and sometimes I do dress them alike or (gasp!) dress one in green or yellow. And just for fun, I'll switch their outfits or blankets and see how long it takes Grandma to realize there is a mixup! ;-)

peopel in our families used to have a hrd time remembering who was who and my girls look NOTHING alike ... so they would remember by Rhiannon's dark hair and then she went light brown like her sister now family (we don't see often) have to start all over LOL I love watching them trying to figure it and they get all proud of them selves when their 50/50 guess was right (LOL)
with colors ... I did that somehwat with my girls when they got older and switched off the sippies (you can totally tell mine appart so that was not it) Rhiannon has blue eyes and she got the sippy with the blue handle and Carys (has brown) got the other handle (either white or orange) and the same went for the binkies ...
now I don't really bother too much since what I give one will end up with the other just to see what each other has ...
but I do have to say it does make life easy when trying to figure out who drank what when they were younger
I do the same thing for my girls kylie is purple and madison is pink it has been that way since they were born...it does make it easier with the color coding
