I have been a little frustrated. My daughter is 3 and her birthday is a month too late to put her in head-start this year. So I have been trying to home-school her. She is smart but anyone with children her age knows how hard it is to get them to sit and pay attention.I have tried different things to try and get her excited about learning I am simply at a loss. I catch myself having to walk away from time to time and really am running out of ideas. Anybody got any?

Incorporate learning into every day activities, at her age she does not need a school room setting yet.  At three, all you can do should only last 1-3 minutes. Just talk to her about everything. Haver her help you count the dishes you are putting away. Name the color of socks as you put them away or the fruit and grocery items you pick up. "Look at that, how many red apples are on the front of this box?" "I have one apple, you have two apples, how many apples is that together? Let's count them..."

Once she gets older she will be more interested in activity books. Also I filled my son's room with 'teacher posters' You can get them at any teacher supply store and Walmart even has a few now. They have the numbers written out, the number and a picture. Same with colors, letters, sight words, etc.

Also, try a video, I know most people hate them, but Blue's Clues and Sesame Street grab the kid's attention and teaches them a thing or two.

Don't worry, just talk to her, and she will do great because she has a mom who cares.
