I don't know if any of you have read the book The Velveteen Rabbit as a child or now as a mom reading it for the first time to your child. I read it from time to time to my son (my daughters are older now & are not into it as much) & tear up at the same point everytime. My son has several stuffed animals but one is his favorite,he had it since he was born & always has it with him when he is playing or watching tv.

Once he started Kindergarten he was excited & a little nervous,it took me a little adjusting as well since he is the last one to go to school. He also realized he would be leaving his favorite stuffed dog here & asked me to watch her. I assured him he would have a great time in school, make friends & I would take care of his puppy, so in a way, this puppy is like his Veleveteen Rabbit, it is worn but worn with alot of love.

Did you have a special toy or blanket as a child? I had a Raggedy Ann & Andy (until the family dog got a hold of Andy & then got another one but he was bigger & not quite the same).

I actually still have my favotite stuffed animal. Its in storage right now but I know it is still there for me(and I am going to be 31 on Sunday!!!!!???????) I collected stuffed animals for years and I always kept them close. One year, my husband and I moved to Va to try and find better jobs. It lasted only a few months before his mom got sick and we moved back home to care for her. I had two huge boxes and a large bag full of stuffed animals that we couldn't fit in the moving truck, and we had asked a relative to keep them for us for a while until the next time they came home to visit and could bring them for me. Well needless to say, this family member "thought I didn't want them anymore and gave them away." I was livid!! Who in their right mind would get rid of someone else's' things without making sure first????? The only thing that made it easier to stomach is they were given to a children's hospital. At least they will receive more love and give comfort to many other children. Just so you understand, I collected these animals for years, some of them were and are irreplaceable. At least my teddy was not with them. It was the first thing given to me by my grandfather and it means a lot to me. I have kept it in very good condition. At one point, it had received a tear in it and I sewed it back together. You can't even tell it was ever damaged.

I know, it's crazy to be so obsessive over a toy, but this toy is special, at least to me.
