Ok, so maybe its nothing to be alarmed about, but I took my 2 yr olds temp about an hr ago (after he threw up) and it was 96.3. He has been telling me he is cold since like 3:30............and I kept feeling, but he didnt have a fever........and I am just worried, that his body temp may drop........I dont know if maybe he is getting a cold, or virus, or if he has something serious.........if it drops anymore I will take him to the hospital.........anyone have any ideas on what could cause this?

Feb. 8, 2007 at 7:55 PM How did you take the temp?  I would take rectal.  I know they hate it but you can be more sure it is correct!

Feb. 8, 2007 at 7:56 PM May I ask how you took temp? You shouldn't worry right now. It could be he's just lost some fluids. You need to worry about a temp if it gets below 93, thats normally hyperthermia (literally freezing to death.) My temp is normally 97. Everyone is different.

Feb. 8, 2007 at 7:57 PM You should probably try a warm bath then put him in sleeper to keep his body heat up. Why don't you call the Hospital and ask whats too low.

Feb. 8, 2007 at 7:58 PM Maybe he's dehydrated. lo's get dehydrated very, very fast especially when they throw up. It. may be nothing to worry about, but I would call his pediatrician.

Feb. 8, 2007 at 8:00 PM You need to add 1 degree to the temp since it was under the arm. He should be fine. Force(encourage)  fluids for the rest of the night if he can keep them down, watch for dehydration.

My 2 year old also has a low body temp.  I took her in for her 2 year check up and when they took her temp under her arm, she was like 96.8.  The nurse said to add about a degree since it's under the arm.

I also agree with mommybutterfly about the BRAT diet, but only if he continues to throw up.  My 5 year is coughing a lot, and once in a while will cough so hard that she gags and makes herself throw up.

I hope he feels better soon!

Feb. 8, 2007 at 11:19 PM sorry your baby's feeling sick!  My body temp is always at least a degree and a half below normal.  I agree with DazeDelights, try to keep him warm and give him lots of fluids.  Hope he feels better soon!
