When Clay and I first found out that we were going to parents, we were completely shocked. It was not the timing we had calculated...we figured we would wait til AFTER he and I had finished nursing school! However, our timing was not God's timing, but God's timing was good. After my family had just recently lost our beloved PawPaw to pancreatic cancer, and Clay's mom had just barely survived a horrific car accident and lost her foot, God intervened to heal our hearts. God's answer was our lil Makenna. I can imagine that God didn't want to see us so brokenhearted and knew that Clay's mom would need a wonderful reason to push herself everyday in rehab in order to recover. In fact, when my husband suggested the name Makenna for our lil pride and joy, I knew it was God's will because when we looked up the meaning it was "happiness". We never thought there could be anything to make us any happier than having God personally orchestrate our little girl's coming into the world.
I would like to think that Clay and I are somewhat stable in our faith in God, however, one subject did cross our minds on almost a daily basis and caused us to question our faith- how we were going to afford our little runt AND nursing school. For those of you who've attended nursing school, you know it's a full-time job and that working while in school is impossible...at least working enough to support a family! However, God showed us today, that he always follows through on His plan, and never leaves us hanging! Today I found out that one of us received a very competitive national nursing grant. This grant not only completely covers my tuition and expenses, it also gives us a $1200 a month stipend to help with everyday living expenses (can we say diapers? formula??). Now we know that this is not a whole lot of money (well, maybe it is here in Arkansas...lol!), but this is enough to ensure that with the money we also had put back to scrape by on, that we will be okay. Now Clay and I are blessed enough that we don't have to worry about who's going to get the job and sacrifice their schoolwork and possibly fail in order to support our growing little family...we now get to concentrate on school, becoming the best nurses we can possibly be, be the best parents we can possibly be, and enjoying the blessings God has given us! :)
