I am still using our spare bedroom as Kohen's therapy room but it is getting harder to come up with ideas on activities we can play. This week I have been trying to get him to pretend play with the playmobile characters and the fisher price characters. He seems to like them but is still more interested in building roads/bridges for his cars to drive on. Today we did flashcards and he did excellent. I even expanded the questions and he answered almost all of them correctly. For example, a flashcard would have Elmo holding a green crayon. I would ask Kohen what was Elmo holding, who is holding the crayon, and what color was the crayon. I will start doing this with him on books or pictures. He is getting really good at answering my questions and also finishing my sentences. I still have problems trying to get his attention when he is focused on something else though. I pretty much have to get in his face.
I also try to interact with him during day to day activities. I will have him help me with the laundry or clean up his toys in the living room and bedroom. I am pleasantly suprised to find out that he actually likes to help me!
There have been some noteable improvements in Kohen's social interaction this week. One is that Kohen came up to me a few days ago and said "kiss, kiss," and smiled and looked straight at me and kissed me ALL BY HIMSELF! Very happy moment for Mama:) The other thing was at school. His teacher and her assistant were having a sock ball throwing competition and Kohen was laughing sooo hard. He went over to grab some sock balls and joined in on the game. That is great! Kohen is also hugging and waving good-bye to people more often when we leave but those are still when prompted.
I've been working on the picture cards, they seem to be taking a lot of work. Kohen's speech therapist said she will make some cards for me so I will just wait and see what she has and add some more myself if necessary.

Yeah for Kohen! I think you are doing great! It is so hard to come up with new ways to play interacting games with the kids - that was a challenge for us as well. I added playing www.starfall.com with him to assist with Isaac's speech and narrative skills - following a story line and asking questions about what had happened in the story the page before. It was fun for him (but wow, it can be mind-numbing for the adult).
It is Isaac's 5th bday today! Gotta go do more party planning!
