This month is breast cancer awareness month, remember to do your self exams and get mamograms.
I met a very special person when I moved into my home almost 5 years ago. Our homes are very close together and when I would be out in the back yard with the kids, I noticed a women 2 doors down, tall, thin, and was wearing a bandana on her head. I thought, she must have cancer. I was right. In the next couple weeks we finally got to introduce ourselves and I learned alittle about what was going on with her. She found a lump herself and yes it was breast cancer. (which eventually went to her liver and bone) Over a short period of time I became so close to her, like I had known her for years, like she was my best friend from high school, but I had only known her for a short time. Sometimes you just meet that one person that you have an instant connection/bond with--a friendship that is like no other, it's irreplaceable. This is the kind of friendship I had with her, I loved her as a friend. Breast Cancer took her away, Nov. 17, 2005.
I know I will never feel that way again about someone but I am so happy she came into my life (even if it was only for such a short time) and that I was able to experience all the fun times we had. Some favorites were just sitting out on her front porch, visiting with a glass on wine, sitting by her fire pit, or going to the Galena Winery with friends. I know the pain of loosing a "one in a lifetime friend" and have been doing what i can so others hopefully don't have to go through that pain. I made an incredible journey in Aug. of 2004, I did the Susan G Komen Breast cancer 3 day in her honor. It's a 60 mile walk over the course of 3 days. One big family walking for the same reason, a world with NO breast cancer. I raised $2200 that year and just did the walk again this past Aug. in her memory and raised $2380. The feeling of completion and what we all stood for is indescribable to someone that has never done that walk before. I was so proud of myself for raising that much money and yes I made it all 60 miles (and slept in a tent for 2 nights!! :) Where I walked you'd have people from there come out to cheer you on, give you some water, a freeze pop, a spray with there hose, bubbles, music, candy, anything to keep us motivated. Believe me after you've walked 15 miles in the hot sun, you'll take what you can for motivation!!
The walk is in like 10 states, if you ever have the chance to do it, it's an experience you'll never forget and you'll be touched in ways you never thought possible.
Way to go Me!! I hope to do it again in the future~
Because EVERYONE deserves a LIFETIME !!!!!!!!!!!
