Live an Empowered and Magical Life

Things are not as they seem

I had an eye opener on this subject this week.

Wednesday I tested in Tae Kwon Do.  I had prepared and practiced and was testing early so I could watch my daughter’s testing tonight.  She is testing for her black belt.

I had to pick two board breaks for my test this time.  One had to be a hand technique, the other a jumping kick.

Jumping is not my best talent in Tae Kwon Do.  I have never been the most physical of people, as I always read and pondered things more than running and jumping even as a child.

Anyway I practiced several types of jumps and kicks and was ready to test.

I ate a bit of trailmix and drank a cup of milk and off I went.

During my testing my mind kept going to the jumping board break.
I was not focused as much as usual as my mind kept wandering to the jump.

After the test was over I felt that I had done a poor job.

My mind kept wandering over to the jump.  I did break the board, although not on the first go.

I told a few friends that this was my worst test ever.  I thought it was pretty bad. They all said it was pretty good.  They didn’t understand what my problem with it was.

I couldn’t get the photos and video to download from my camera and had to go to my grandson’s test.

There I figured out that the card was not in the slot properly in the camera.  I switched to internal storage and snapped shots and videos of my grandson.

Later that night I downloaded all the pics to the computer.

As I watched myself I was pleasantly aware that my testing was not as poor as I thought it had been.  It was not my best, but by far, not the worst.

This got me thinking.  How often do we create a problem where there is none?  It’s all a matter of perspective.  Each person pulls the experience through all the past expectations and experiences.

For me the test was poor, for others good.  It was the same test, they were witnessing, and I was filtering it through past failures and emotions of lack.

This is a key to our emotional well being and state of bliss.  What we focus on, whether it’s really true or not, becomes true for us.

The more emotion we give a situation, the more real it becomes.

A dear friend pointed out that I had spent a lot time and energy worrying about that jump break.  I had set myself for it to feel hard and thus it did.

I have learned much from this experience.  When you believe it you will see it.  What you believe you will experience.
Our emotions and thoughts are what make things “real” to us.  They are not always what is real to others.

As I watched the videos of my test, I laughed at myself.  I had done much better than what I had allowed myself to think during the test.  However, had my mind been on doing well, the test results would have flowed more in that direction.

Focus your thoughts where you wish your experiences to be.  Be the person you are desiring to experience.

Thoughts are power.  Use them wisely.

Smiles,
Donna
