Things are looking up ( I HOPE )

Well things have been good the last few days to a week....at home that is. I have started making a few changes the first i removed the kids tv out of the family room.... the first day was hard but it has gotten much easier, the kids find other things to do and they dont fight as much and it has given me a better way to observe Ethan. I stopped argueing with him and will not allow my hubby or his sisters to either... sometimes its hard but i remember he feeds on the arguments and loves to see he has hit the right button. Also i find ways to praise him, getting his clothes out like i asked, sharing, helping me feed the animals etc. and it seems to be doing well. So many times we get caught up in the, you never, why cant you, stop misbehaving, sit still, listen to me kind of frustratuion that we forget to let them know when they are doing good, or being nice, kind, helpful. I dont want him to feel as though he is bad because all he does is bad so he is going to do bad. So i redirect the unwanted behavior and praise the good.....you should see the smile that puts on his face and he is more willing to continue because i brought it to his attetion....I  wrote his teacher a letter this morning telling her these things and how to avoid the unwanted behavior and back talk I HOPE SHE LISTENS. Ladies have a great day....

I have just started the same thing for my son. It seems to be working so far. Homework time is really hard because he constantly moves around or does the work wrong to get a reaction out of me. I have been sitting there calmly and just looking straight ahead. Within about 30 seconds he is sitting down next to me again wanting to do the work correctly. It can be so frustrating at times.
