I want everyone to know how frustrated I am at this moment. We have been screwed by Target before. A few years ago,  a Target sales person had told us to buy a particular software. He assured us it was the one we would need. When it didn't work, they would not let us return it and we were out $100. We just ate the $100.

Then a year later, we purchased a digital camera. This particular camera required batteries so we were encouraged by the salesperson to buy a battery charger with rechargeable batteries. The photos on this camera were terrible so we returned the camera for an even more expensive model. This camera did not require batteries but Target would not let ud return the battery charger even though we just forked out so much money for the more expensive camera. The battery charger was still in the packaging.

Yesterday did it!! I am furious!!!  We had purchased a take a long swing for my husbands second cousin. She has a son that is due any minute now. It was on the registry. We were not able to make the baby shower because my parents were in town from the East coast visiting. We found out that someone had already purchased the swing for her and apparantly had forgotten to take it off the registry. My husband had misplaced the receipt but assumed that store credit would be fine. Our cousin told us that she really wanted the Baby Einstein play mat and that no one had gotten her this. We just wanted to make an exchange.

They would not do it. They said they will not even exchange without a receipt. The person gave me a number to call to work it out. No one their would work with me. I spoke to two individuals who refused to work with me and told me i was welcome to write a letter about the policy but the letter would still not resolve the situation the way that i would like it to. The second individual I spoke to, a man, was patronizing and rude. He would speak over me and not let me finish my sentence. He had this condescending tone to his voice.

Now, I am stuck with a Rainforest take a long swing. I don't need it. I don't want it. This is so completely unfair. The cashier should tell the customer this after every transaction. I have never had a problem with any other store than Target. The problem is that where we live, it is our only option. There aren't any other stores of this nature.

Will any of the ladies on here help me out by participating in a protest. Nothing huge, like we won't shop at a Target on a particular day or week or something.

Oct. 17, 2007 at 3:29 PM All I can say is maybe donate the swing to a needy family or a childrens hospital or a day care facility.  Or if you see someone going to buy one at a store tell then you have one still in the box just had two that were purchased and the store wont let you return it.  Or list it on ebay.

Oct. 17, 2007 at 3:31 PM Target has a receipt lookup feature.  Did you buy it with a check, credit or debit card?  If so, they can look it up, and if they refuse then you should contact their customer service line, and just keep going until someone looks it up.  That's just ridiculous.  Our Targets here in my city are great about returning stuff.  If there's another Target around, try returning it there.  It could be that the specific store you go to is staffed by jerks.

That sucks.  Dave actually went this morning to Target because he go the wrong size shorts.  He took the tags off and lost the receipt.  I thought for sure he would be returning with the shorts in hand, but they took it back.  I wonder why they wont take back the swing.  If you lost the receipt they just run your CC and verify you purchased it there.  Try putting the swing on Craigslist or Ebay just to get it out.  Maybe someone in your play group would like it?

Sorry you had such bad experiences there.

Oct. 17, 2007 at 3:34 PM We must have purchased it with cash because they did try to look it up and it was not located. I called the 1-800 number for all Target stores and this was what we were told. It is the principal of the thing really. We spend so much money there and this is the only store that we have had problems. It is just a big hassle to deal with. Like i said, this is not the first time we have had a situation and this one finally just pissed me off.

Yea, we don't care for Target either.

Did ya'll happen to pay by credit or debit card?  If so, they should be able to look it up in their system.  If you paid by cash they obviously can't find it.

This past Christmas my oldest son got this Penguin thingy he didn't want.  It was a toy that he's obviously too old for but it was given to him because of him being a penguin collector.  He didn't want it and wanted to simply exchange it for something else.  We weren't trying to get money back or anything.  We didn't have a receipt and they said we give gift receipts which we didn't have.  They said the only way he could exchange it for something else is if he got something out of the Toy section...he's almost 16 yrs old!!!!  He's too old for toys!!!  He didn't want toys!!!!  He wanted to exchange it for something more age appropiate for him and they wouldn't allow him to do that....I've never heard of such a thing except only in Target.  Even at Walmart if you don't have your receipt you can still exchange an item for something else and it doesn't have to be toy for toy like Target made us do.  So we ended up getting Axl something and I just gave Dylan cash for the total of the Penguin thing so he could buy something he really wanted.

TARGET SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!  If I have to go to Target I make sure it's for something we absolutely need like diapers or something of that nature.

Oct. 17, 2007 at 3:37 PM How long ago did you purchase it and was it on a credit card or check card??  They can look up your receipt if it was purchased within 90 days.

Oct. 17, 2007 at 3:37 PM have you tried calling their quality control number and letting them know what is happening?  They don't always know how the individual stores are behaving....

All stores now give gift receipts. Why not have the other person who bought the swing either give you their receipt or return theirs and she can keep yours.

In regards to chrissys comment. We tried that. We called my husbands aunt who had already purchased the swing and she said Renee (new mom to be) had already opened it and set it up so they had thrown out the receipt.
