So many people like to read about others experiences, so here's mine:
Julia: I was induced a few days after my due date. I was pre-eclamptic so we didn't want to hold off too long. 13 hrs on pitocin with no pain meds and the Dr tells me that I am not making any progress which he is worried about because the baby may have passed meconium. There were 5 other babies born that day and they play this music anytime a baby is born and i wanted MY music so I okayed the surgery. I get a spinal which hurts a little, but nothing too bad. Then I went numb from my chest down and they started. i did not fel any pain, but a lot of pressure at times. She was out in maybe 10 or 15 minutes. She had passed meconium, so it was good that we had not waited. She cried and I felt so proud!! It was not the birth experience i had wanted but I was so happy i forgot all about it when I saw her. She was born on May 26th, 2004 at 6:08 pm, weighing 7 lbs. 11 oz. She was 20 1/4 inches tall. My recovery was great. i was walking by morning, with some pain, but I only needed Tylenol with Codeine which I took probably 3 days after leaving the hospital (I was there 48 hrs). I was amazed at how well I was feeling and after a week home I was ready to go, almost back to normal. It was a great experience!
Madeline: Our insurance company would not pay for any attempt at a VBAC so my c-section was scheduled for 39 weeks (June 14th, 2006). Since I knew what to expect i was far less nervous and i thought it would be a breeze. Sadly, I was a bit mistaken! LOL! First, they could not get my IV inn- I hate needles, so it was horrible, but i did not make a sound- just took it like a WOMAN! Then, they had problems with my spinal and had to stick the needle in my spine 3 TIMES before it was effective in numbing me! They have Maddie out quickly, and she cries a little, but not as much as Julia so i start to feel worried. She is born at 7:37, weighs 6lbs 8 oz.. and is 19 1/2 inches long. They bring her over for a sec and then take her to give her oxygen. Jared goes with her as they stitch me up. He wants to stay with me, but I want him to go with her. I go back to my room for recovery and that's when I got nauseous. I was sick a couple of times right after my surgery with Julia, but they let me throw up for 3 HOURS before they gave me any meds! All the while Maddie is under oxygen. So, i am sick, alone in my room, with no one telling what is going on. There were no major problems with maddie, so I still don't know why no one came to give me an update. Anyway, at 11:30 i am finally allowed to hold my baby. She is so tiny compared to Julia! She was adorable. jared is worried that i don't look too good, but I am sure i am just tired. every time the nurses check on me my BP is SOOOO HIGH! it turns out they were not giving me the right pain meds- just regular Tylenol!!! I was in pain, but I just thought it was normal, even though it was nowhere near that much pain last time. So, needless to say, they gave me thr right meds my last day in the hospital (2 1/2 days total) and my BP went back to normal and I looked normal again! LOL. It took longer to recover from this surgery I think because I had thrown up so much afterwards and my pain wasn't managed well, but I was still up and back to normal in less than 10 days.
I know I will have more children, so we will see how they go from here on out!
Comments:
wow all of these are very interesting....and kind of scary. lol This is my first and I do not tolerate pain or needles very well. I really hope my labor goes pretty smooth but I'm expecting the worst just cause I know that's my luck!! I'm 35 weeks and so far have had no complications but I'm still pretty worried! Pray for us!! lol

Do you feel like you're always saying "No" to your kids? Maybe it's time to have a "Yes" day instead.

You are very lucky. My first c-section was a great experience, I was walking in 8 hours and felt really good, but when my second baby was about to be born, my doctor was out of town, and the doctors covering for her were terrible. They kept sending me home because my contractions were not constant, but they were so hard. I was in labor for 145 hours (that is 6 days and 1 hour). I could not get any rest because every time I fell asleep, I was woken by the pain of a contraction. Finally, I knew that if something was not done, the baby and I were going to die, so I went to the hospital determined to make them do something, but this time when I went in my blood pressure was so high they said they had to deliver the baby immediately. I was going to try VBAC, so they broke my water, and I dilated to 5 but that is where it stopped. I begged them for pain medication because I had been in so much pain for so long. All the anesthesiologists were busy, so I had to suffer for another 6 hours. My contractions were off the scale in the 130's. The nurses called them monster contractions. I had been having them that hard for 6 days. Anyway, when they finally went to give me a spinal the first one didn't take, and after the second one, my blood pressure dropped and they lost the baby's heart beat, so they wheeled us in for an emergency c-section. As they were wheeling me in, I was sure that I was going to die. I was so worried about the baby. The ceiling was spinning because my blood pressure was so low.
I threw up while they were cutting me open and I threw up while they were stitching me up. The baby was okay, thank God. My poor husband was green.
I got a staph infection in the operating room and nearly died before they caught it. I'll spare you the details of the 9 days spent in the hospital and the 4 months on antibiotics, having to have a nurse come by twice a day every day to administer them. And through it all, they told me it was safe to breastfeed. My son's digestive system is a mess from that.
