independant play

I can't get Bethany to play alone when we're at home//She plays with cousins off and on all day at her grandmas but she plays on her own pretty well there too..When she's at home I do make lots of qualtiy time for her but then when I need to do something she absolutely hangs on me and will not play on her own.I try to get her started on an activity, dolls, coloring ,play doh, whatever and she lovedsfor me to play with her but the moment I slip away she gets whiney and clingy and follows me around..How do you make a child independant and make then use their imaginations on their own???

But on your topic, I have a 2 1/2 year old and she is like that too.  So far it works for me to let her do the same stuff with me.  Like, she has a kitchen set so when I'm washing dishes I gather her dishes up and tell her to wash her dishes too. (even rinsed out an old soap thingy for her and she has her own sponge) or if your talking on the phone tell her to call...granma, cousin, etc. while you talk on the phone.  Madison also helps me with a lot of stuff like putting the silverwear in the dishwasher, or pushing the clothes into the drawer. Irritating...lol but the job still gets done. :)
