Today Kohen and I were looking through his Nick Jr. magazine and there was a blank face to draw on so I asked Kohen if he can finish the picture. I named off the parts and was suprised that he actually drew them in correctly! He even scribbled in some ears. I have attached a picture of it below. His listening and comprehension skills have really been taking off lately. Like today he found some wires on the floor and I told him that it was dangerous and to give them to daddy and he ran out to the living room and gave it to my husband. This is new because a couple of months ago he would of just ignored me.
Kohen's regular speech therapist was at a convention this week so he had a substitute. She used Floortime therapy which I immediately picked up on because that is the therapy I do at home with Kohen . I did pick up some things from her that I could use at home though. When Kohen started to ignore her she would mimmick his actions and words and he would look at her like she was a weirdo but at least she got his attention. She also pointed out to me that two way communication can be also be nonverbal like when she repeatedly pushes Kohen's car away and he repeatedly pulls it back.
This week I have also been working on the "I want" sentences with Kohen since that is what they are teaching him at speech therapy. He has to say "I want" and then request whatever he wants instead of JUST requesting what he wants. Like for instance today he wanted me to pick him up to fly like Super Grover on Sesame Street. So instead of him just saying "Super Grover" I had him say "I want Super Grover". He is getting good at using the word "want" but still has a hard time saying the "I" part.
Yesterday we went over to visit my parents and at one point the front door was unlocked and Kohen ran outside but luckily he only made it to the driveway because my 10 year old nefew caught him and brought him inside. A few days before that him and my husband were at a tire place and while my husband was talking to the tire guy, Kohen unbuckles his seat belt and climbs out the window to play with the tires. I don't understand why Kohen is still doing this. His wandering off is the number one thing that I fear most and I cannot seem to get Kohen to understand that it is dangerous. I hope someday he outgrows this.
Overall, a good week for Kohen. His creative imagination has also been taking off lately. He is building a lot of actual things out of Legos. The red headed boy figure in both pictures is supposed to be Kohen, lol. He calls the first picure "Kohen driving", and the second picture he calls "Kohen up the stairs"

Here is the face picture he drew today.

Yes wandering off is scary. We had to put deadbolts on our doors a few months ago because Kohen ran off at 10pm at night and went missing. I called 911 and the cops found him at a nearby school...a half mile away!
By the way, I bought Kohen a small tin of Tinker Toys and he was interested in the parts but wasn't really interested in building anything. I guess it is too advanced for him at this time but I sure enjoyed playing with it myself, I built a windmill!
That is wonderfu. I thought drawing...I wonder if anyone else tagged drawing. I wasn't really surprised to learn from your profile that your son also has HFA. Who but a parent of ASD would care about a silly drawing like it was a lottery? I love floortime. Thanks for your description of it. I never had formal training so I listen to parents like you. Scary about the wandering...but I know about it too. I scream and panic as I run around the lodge by the lake and he saunters out of a door like nothing happened.

Mila Kunis' Weight Gain Is No Cause for Concern
This is HUGE! Isaac just started to draw the body. Before, all of his images were abstract shapes, usually pink, and he insisted that they not touch each other.
Isaac was not a wanderer, but my NT Daughter IS. Scares me to death.
