Hey all, let me start by saying I am so touched by all the lovely, caring moms who have followed Zoe's story over the past couple of weeks. It is so comforting to know there are moms who are praying for you and your family.
I am happy to say that Zoe is improving greatly as she is on a strict gluten-free diet now. She has gained 10 ozs and is up playing, laughing, talking and giving her poor twin brother all kinds of hell these days. He enjoyed his "free time", not having his bully sister snatch every toy, snack, sippy cup, etc, away from him but he is also happy to have her back to her old self. You could see his concern for her when she was in the hospital and he is SO happy to have his roommate back.
The bummer is that they both contracted a nasty case of pneumonia while we were in the hospital so they are both recovering from that. They are on nebulizer treatments and antibiotics and hopefully the snot will dry up soon. Zoe is still suffering from some effects of her malnourishment. She is still very unsteady on her feet and looks like she's thrown back a couple of GF beers when she walks. The doctors assure us that this should be better w/i a month as she starts to process the nutrients now.
We are waiting for Reed's Celiac blood test results and still have to test Connor, Caleb, Mom and Dad. Should any of our blood work come back as CD positive we will have to undergo the endoscopy biopsy but we will cross that bridge if/when it comes around.
I really just wanted to say thank you, thank you, thank you for your support and well wishes and let you know that she is finally doing better. I am so relieved and it is the best feeling in the world to see my precious girl up and around and doing so well. It is amazing how far she has come just by eliminating that nasty gluten that was making her so sick. I wish you all a stellar weekend!
i haven't been able to follow along much, but it's good to hear she's home and getting better.
it's amazing how they can be going along fine and all of the sudden, no longer eat anything. to be honest, i did think of this when i read your very first journal, beacause i have a friend whose 8 yo was just diagnosed. they are still learning to cope, too, and it's been about 4 months. good luck on your shopping! i hear that finding food that actually tastes good is hard to find. hugs to all.
