The Palio race takes place twice a year in Siena, Italy. The neighborhoods compete for the honor of winning the Palio. Each neighborhood is represented by 1 horse and rider. They race around the piazza in the town center. The competition and spirit over the course of the week is just amazing. This video was taken the day before the big race and only captures about 10% of the energy. They walk through the streets singing their neigborhood songs and draped in their representative flags. It truly was amazing. All generations participate. Go, if you are ever in Italy in July or August.

We spent a week in Italy a few years ago. We visited Siena for a couple of days. We missed the Palio race, though, as we went in September. I didn't even know about it until I saw a show on t.v. about it.

But we loved the town. Beautiful.
