You will be assimilated...

I don't get it the big hubub over a fantasy book which happens to be *gasp* not about god. SO WHAT?

It seems that Atheists and everyone else is only allowed to see books and films with god themes in them. Alice in Wonderland, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, The Wheel of Time Series. Heck, even Princess Mononoke had some pretty powerful religious themes in it.

Exactly why is it okay if I read and enjoy peices of literature with blatant Christian and religous themes but I can not then enjoy literature that has an atheist theme? I am an atheist for goodness sakes! What exactly is an atheist supposed to read then? Why should an atheist author only write about gods? If you are religious and teach your children about religion then what do you think and atheist is going to teach their children?--that's right, life without religon or the deities associated with it.

What exactly is WRONG with an non-religoius, anti-religous theme? I read all the time about how the non-devout are doomed or damaged or not fit to be heroes all the time. If you don't like it is is easy enough not to buy it or read it, why try to force your literary or theatrical opinion on everyone else in an endless see of forwards? Not everyone is religous and not everyone who is religious has difficulty separating fantasy from reality.

Furthermore, how can you even critique a book or movie you haven't even read!?

So enough with the Golden Compass is evil forwards. If you want to see evil then pick up a book on the holocaust and look at a few pictures of concentration camps.

OKay I get the whole "Golden COmpass is Evil" from Christians since in the end he supposedly kills God. But otherwise here here. I especially like your last line. If you want to see evil pick up a book on the holocaust! THANK YOU!

Its a freakin fantasy movie...as in fiction...who the hell cares. If you dont like it dont read/ watch it right? I mean come on people. Whatever happened to artistic freedom?

Oct. 30, 2007 at 1:30 PM Can you help me here....What is all the hubbub between the Religious groups of late...why have the Christian Moms and Athiest Moms doing nothing but sparring with one another on absolutely every topic that comes to the table?  I don't belong to either group...considering the season..I say let's enjoy the "great pumpkin"!!  But this website has become nothing but a Sparring forum for Religious groups, and honestly...that's not why I joined, way back in February.  My thoughts were, oh, ok..a website that everyone has one thing in common.....great...!! Why not Celebrate that...rather than the constant Bickering....Does that make sense...or am I really missing something here?!!

Oct. 30, 2007 at 1:45 PM I just don't get the problem with seeing this movie or reading the books if you are christian. If your faith is strong, this won't sway you right? I mean get real, I am an atheist but I let my kids read the bible and other religious books. They are still atheist, it didn't change their views, only strengthens them. I believe it is a good thing to expose our kids to all ways of thinking and let them make informed decisions. They are capable of thinking for themselves and a fictional work is not going to change who they are and what they believe in. Just silly in my opinion.

Oct. 31, 2007 at 10:34 AM Funny, I just wrote a journal post about this very thing.. I agree, how can someone post alerts when they haven't even read the book?  I am not against any books, especially ones I haven't read yet.
