I just got back from my annual appointment with the gyno.  I told him that I was thinking about getting pregnant again, and I was wondering if I would be able to go VBAC.  He said I would advise you not to.  He said that he would tell me to have a c-section, because there are to many risks for me and the baby.

I hated my c-section.  It is such a huge surgery.  This makes me even more nervous about trying.

I had a c-section with my son I pushed for 2 hours and then needed a emergency c-section.  They gave me a spinal because the epi was already turned off and it did not take and then they had to put me to sleep.  I sleeped on and off the first day and really did not get to see my baby till the next day.

What are your thoughts about VBAC?

Feb. 20, 2007 at 1:44 PM I'm 5 months pregnant now with my second baby and like you my C-Section with my first was HORRIBLE, one of my staples fell out on day 3 and then I got an infection!!! It took me a good 8 weeks to finally feel better. I asked about VBAC's at my 6 week after my first was born. My doctor doesn't do them, says it's too risky, I'm in total FEAR about having this child now. I actually had a bad experience at my last monthly check up and was thinking about switching Doctors so I could VBAC.

One of my friends just tried to VBAC in October, and the same thing happened as her first, 10-20 hours of labor and pushing then another c-section. But afterwards she had bowl obstruction and ended up in the hospital for another 9 days!! The hospital wanted to release the baby as well and leave her in!!! Can you imagine??

I swear you can't win either way.

Feb. 26, 2007 at 3:17 PM a lot of doctors will advise against VBAC, not because they are more dangerous really but because they don't carry the added insurance required to perform the VBAC; both deliveries have their risks.  I just had a VBAC 6 months ago and it was the most amazing experience EVER!  I would ask your doctor to be more specific with regard to why he would advise you not to try the VBAC ~ if there is a medical reason supporting it, I would agree with him; but from what I understand most VBACs are successful as long as there isn't an underlying cause requiring a c-section (for example, my sister in law wouldn't dilate - nothing - so she never had an option).  Please feel free to send me a message with any questions you might have about VBAC or my experience with my own VBAC.  Good luck!
