Guinhyvar's Journal

You Sure You Wanna Go There...?

I love talking about my kids. Beee-lieve me, I love to. But even I have other interests. Yeah, really!

Of course, top on that list is books. I love to read. I mean, I LOVE to read. I was a little late in learning how, about six, haha, but since then I haven't looked back. I read about two books a week. Not always brand new books, I'm one of those that goes back and re-reads oldies and much beloved (to me) books. I have a pretty decent sized personal library. More than anything, I looo-oooove to read.

SO. I figured that I should tell you all about the books I'm reading. If you're not interested, naturally, don't read this. But hey, when I'm reading something new, I'll tell you about it, and if you're looking for a new something or other to read, maybe I'll say something that turns you onto a new book. I figured, every week or so, I'll post what I'm reading, what I think about it (so far) and what I thought about whatever I read last week. Again, if you don't want to know... don't read 'em. But I love to talk about books almost as much as I love to read 'em. So this will definitely be a labor of love for me!

What I'm currently reading ~ Blazeby Richard Bachman AKA Stephen King. In all honesty, I've only read the very first page. So I have no opinion as of yet.

I just finished, today, The Almost Moonby Alice Sebold.  It's about a woman who kills her mother, what led up to it, and what happens. It's based in a 24 hour period, heavy on the "flashbacks". It was poignant, and somewhat intense. It's one of those, either you'll really like it, or you really won't. I liked it. But I read her first book, The Lovely Bones, so I was familiar with her writing style. I recommend that one, for sure.

Alright. I could really get going on this topic, referencing other books I've read. What I think I'll add is one or two books that I have  read, that I would recommend.

The Thirteenth Taleby Diane Setterfield. Arguably one of the very best books I have ever read. It was stunning. I was enraptured from the beginning all the way to the end. Her writing style is beautifully brilliant. It's a story within a story. I've read this book several times, and it always captivates me, and I always get a little "aha!" at the end... even though I already know how it ends. She weaves everything together so seamlessly and without you even realizing it.

Also, for those of you into a little bit of fantasy, Daughter of the Forestby Juliet Marillier. Actually, anything by this woman is good. But if you want to try out a new genre, try this. It's such a good story, whether or not you're a fan of fantasy or no. It's beautiful, and takes you back to the fairy tales of old. I couldn't put it down.

Alright... until next time!
