I can't believe it's almost Christmas! My favorite time of year. I love decorating the house, making Christmas cookies, eating Christmas cookies, and even SHOPPING! It seems like yesterday I was putting away the winter clothes.
My husband recently asked me to make out a list for what I want for Christmas. Please! I have my list from last year and have been adding to it all year. Now I don't mean to sound selfish and spoiled. Mine is really a wish list! A mere guide for this wonderful man to use so he can get in and out of the stores quickly. See - very selfless of me!
I know our budget - I know I can't get everything. But if he's going to get me something - it might as well be something I want, right? I have been stockpiling catalogs from JCPenney all year for this moment!
Now I ask - "dear husband what do you want?" For all your hard work, for all the overtime you work and how much you take care of us - what is your desire for this Christmas?
He answers: "Nothing. We don't have the money. I don't need anything."
WHAT? This is the one time a year we can get something we actually WANT! All through the year we live within our means, are responsible parents - kids come first, then the house needs, then birthdays for the extended family. We never buy things for ourselves!
So what do I get the selfless man who won't give me a clue as to what he wants? Because he WILL be getting something! I have already been browsing the department store ads - visitng JCPenney to see the great sales! I'm starting now - so please - what can I get a 36 year old man who wants nothing just so we can give others everything?
Comments:
I keep a running list for DH and all through the year, if he drops the slightest hint at a book or video or tool, it goes on the list immediately. I have never asked him for ideas because I know he'll pull the same thing as yours!! Let me add that he has made out pretty darn well over the years too!
This year mine is getting a record turntable that connects to the computer via USB and converts vinyl to digital file to burn on CD or download to his MP3 player. If you want a fun place to look for gadget-y gifts, check out Hammacher Schlemmer (www.hammacher.com). They have a fun assortment of stuff including an alarm clock on wheels that rolls off the night stand after you snooze it so you HAVE to get out of bed to turn it off. Isn't that fun?
Timing is everything. It can also be a great gift too. I'm sure when the time is right you will have that one perfect gift he never expected.
How about something for someone else....
