I can't help but wonder at my daughters determination already, especially where fashion is concerned! Somehow I thought because of her DS that she would be easier and more compliant than her two older brothers were. Ha! All I can do is smile as I look back on my naivety.
Right now she is on a dress kick! All she wants to wear are dresses. "Princess" she calls them. And of course everything must be co-ordinated...right down to her undies and hair accessories! Now I don't mind if she wears dresses everyday accept that the weather is turning cold, very wet and that also she possesses a tom-boy streak about a mile wide! I just can't see her maintaining a feminine, lady-like presence at recess on the playground!
She started pulling her stubborn act on me before school about a month or so ago when it was time to get dressed. She didn't want to wear any of her new jeans and shirts that I bought her for back to school a few months ago, she wanted to wear one of her dresses to school. Well, I'm pretty stubborn too so you can just imagine the scene! My hubby will be in another room listening to the back and forth exchange, laughing his head off! He's a lot of help! We go through this when its time to do her hair too. She gets on these kicks where she want's her hair done the same way day after day, while I try to talk her into a little variety. (pigtails drive me nuts after a while)
Anyways, all this to say that thank goodness I was able to find a compromise! The emerging children's style out here in the Northwest (we're definitely behind the east coast) are long shirts with empire waists. All the stores just came out with some really adorable ones for Noelle and I was thrilled. She calls them dresses! That's all she wants to wear, never mind her other beautiful shirts, but at least I can get her into her jeans again for school!
It makes me wonder what's next! She has such a mind of her own but really, I have to say bravo! You go little girl! I don't think she will be a follower in life, or easily swayed by others and I am very proud of her. Right now it's fashion and hairstyles, because she's a little girl of eight, but I just know that as she grows up, and we nurture and channel that independent minded little bundle of determination, it's going to be a very good thing. She will be a leader. And who knows what she will be able to accomplish and what kind of an impact she will have in her circle of influence? What ever the case, you know that I'll be on the sidelines, encouraging her and cheering her on!

teeheehee-----wow, this is jsut burgeoning at age 8? Mine is 5 and we've been going over this for over a year, as have all her buddies! UGH!!!
I compromise...one day is my pick, the other is hers, UNLESS the weather is bad, then weather trumps all. So sometimes she is in stripes and prints and crayz things, but she is blissful. whatevah!
and my mother always said the same thing----you will always know her decisions will be her own and only her own!!!
