You Sure You Wanna Go There...?

Wow, I am on a TEAR with these blogs, LOL. The first week I had an incredible nineteen views, and last week a grand total of fifteen! But at least last week's received a comment, so it balances out, right?

Or, at least, that's what I tell myself haha

Ok, so... Books. Yay!

I did read Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. You see, when a book is so lauded as THE book to read by THE new author, I usually pass. I've bought into the hype before, aaaand been disappointed. I wasn't sure I'd like this book.  I would pick it up at the book store, but put it back, thinking, "meh... sounds too cutesy".

So why did I decide to spend my hard earned moolah on said cutesy book? Because my main book buying site was offering it at 50% off, as well as reduced shipping. So I took 'em up on it... and I'm glad that I did!

It's about two sisters, Claire and Sydney Waverley, who are reunited after Sydney, who ran off as soon as she turned 18, comes back to her hometown, where Claire never left. It's about how the Waverley ancestors, long since touted as the town eccentrics, have always been keepers of a very special garden behind their house. There grows a "feisty" apple tree rumored to produce prophetic apples, and special, edible flowers that are imbued with powers. It's about the town of Bascom, North Carolina itself, and it's most interesting residents, and how they are tied to each other, and to the Waverleys in unexpected ways.

It's a little like a modern day fairy tale with real life situational overtones. Quirky and charming, I thoroughly enjoyed it from the first page, to the last.

I was supposed to read Grave Peril, book three of the Dresden Files, by Jim Butcher... but, alas, I did not. I was distracted. Not just by the fact that the kids have been out of school all week, for Thanksgiving, thus cutting my reading time into a mere fraction of the usual. But also because one of my favorite authors, Terry Goodkind, recently released the final book in his Sword of Truth, series, Confessor.

I've only been able to read about 100 pages in Confessor, even though I've had it since Monday. So I'll be reading that next week. I was thinking I'd get to Grave Peril this week, too, since I already started it. And if I have time, I think I'll read a book I just picked up, Emissary by Fiona McIntosh. It's the second book in a series that I've been reading, and I haven't read this one yet.

So that's what I'll be reading this week. As to what I recommend...

Ok, I've been in a "fantasy" mood lately, so I'm just gonna go there! The Mists of Avalon by the late Marion Zimmer-Bradley. Oh, one of my all time, hands down, Top Ten favorites. It's just a brilliant  book. I have read it and re-read it maybe a dozen or so times, and I enjoy it each and every time. It's by far my FAVORITE version of the King Arthur saga. Even if you're not a fantasy buff, you'll still like this one. Really, it's that good.

Aaand another one that I love, but don't actually own (surprise surprise) is The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger. Oh, my gosh, could not stop laughing! You think you have a boss from hell? Read this and compare!! Even if you saw the movie, read the book. It's hysterical!

So that's it for now. Haha if anyone even reads this LOL. Like I've said, not that I'm all that disappointed. I love to read, and I love to share what I read, so I write about it!

I wonder if you're only getting a few reads because they're posted in the Marketplace? Which I have to ask, why is this posted to the Marketplace?

And I love The Devil Wears Prada. The movie was good, but the book is sooo much better!

Love and Hugs!
