False Ware
Current mood: blah
Category: Writing and Poetry

My feeble attempt at being in the "spirit"
I dress my daughter in her red and white dress
the one grandma bought for her
the one I would never buy for her
and slap on her white tights
that are worn in the knees
and discolored from living
then the final jouissance, her red mary janes
that I bought in downtown from the Persian man
TWO FOR FIVE!
and at the time I needed a black pair
for her spider costume
so I bought them

Driving down Fourth St.
in the heart of Boyle Heights
I hit 4th and Soto
and there is the explosion of street vendors on all corners
competing vendors, vendors that have joined forces
they take up entire blocks with their cheap
specialized ware,
hordes of red metallic balloons
and overstuffed monos gawking at the traffic
on this busy intersection
and there's an unkempt Paisano with a coffee cup in one hand
and his nose in a stiff bouquet of red, white and pink flowers
I wonder if he smells love in the decaying vegetation...

Passing this peacock display of love splashed on the streets
loudly begging for money,
loudly begging for attention,
women and children begging for love expressed
through a polyester fiber bear
with a heart lace trimmed pillow
that reads in a handwritten font,
"Te Amo," "Te Quiero"...
for if their loved ones purchased these dust collectors
it truly would prove their loved ones
love them,
I lead into the streets of Downtown
where people beg for food
for survival
in silence
in grief
in pain
in horror

This day is no different than any other

Everyone can see this journal post.
